I think in terms of the artists, it doesn't matter what the listener calls the music as long as that song or album is still getting airplay. It is an issue of survival for the artist. And if the corporate wing is involved, there will be little protest from the artist.

Can you define art, GL? It is about individual perspective. One may call something art, while others call it something else. If music, a book, a sculpture, a painting or a film did not come from the mind of an individual, then these things are mere worthless objects waiting to be discovered or forgotten.

Its a style of music thats its lyrics just rhymes. Mpst of the sound/rhythm/beats is done with computers (drum machines and sampling). In the begininng they had a dj to do their shit.

Is it music? Depend if you are a purist . They wouldnt call it music or art

Malcom mcleron. He was a dominate prpducer back in the day. He did "buffalo girls "(his single) and if i remembet he produced world famous supreme team's song hey dj.

If you want to get raw....house music and bass music may have its roots from the group kraftwerk, egyptian lover and the art of noise (actually the wete a jazz group that t a few sampled from.

Music, regardless of genre, IS art. The rest is up to the individual. I used to write poetry that always rhymed. But some poets do not use rhymes in their poems. More poets use free style to convey their message.

I agree that technology in r&b, hip-hop and rap has hurt the music a great deal. Some artists are good with it, others are not. I listen to Run DMC's It's Like That(And That's The Way It Is) and I try to determine what instrumentation is in the song. I know that drums was prominent in the song as well as keyboards. The same instrumentation was also in the song Hard Times. That was music. Before that, some rappers sampled songs into their raps and I thought that was the cut that was the deepest.

I sure the hell hope that you weren't trying to say "Macklemore" because if you were you do know I will clown the fuck out of your ass because I live here in Washington state were he is from and was listening to dude all the while he was paying dues on the NW underground circuit before you or anyone out side of the NW knew who he was.

Dude. Don't be trying give music history lessons to me on stuff I pretty much know or take time to learn about when the mood hits me to cover up the fact you don't know or care how the artists or why artists make their music outside of the corporate system today. If to you Iggy Azalea is Hip Hop then you claim that shit. If other people want to claim it's not they will do that shit. Don't be using some lame ass interview to go on to say someone is a dumbass for having an opinion & then go off on some ignorant tangent & basically do the same damn thing you're calling someone a dumbass for in order to make yourself look good.

Rap is a vocal art. It wasn't called rap centuries ago in tribes in Africa, it was a way to address issues among the tribe. In the jazz age, there was a vocal style called Scat. Sarah Vaughn, Louis Prima, John Hendricks, The Manhattan Transfer and others do it.

The Mummers, a group of theatrical performers, would have parades in Pennsylvania. The performers would dress in lavish costumes and accompanied but musicians of percussion, woodwinds, string(guitars, bass and banjos and accordions). Each group would perform a grievance in music in the form of themes like pollution or violence. It was a practice that was done in ancient Rome. The Mummers still perform in Pennsylvania to this day.

Artists these days are not even to be taken seriously in this respect. Amy Winehouse didn't like her first album Frank after it was out. She was merely trying to top herself. Not listening to her fans as to what they thought. Digga may be just talking.

Your ass asking " who is malcom and why he call himself roman numeral 10?"

    Smh

Thats why hip hop has been trash.

Thank goodness for travis mccoy, b.o.b and lamar . They brought diversity
