It was OK, but it seemed a bit too edited to me, you know the scene where she and the boxer were about to passionately kiss? Seems like it was edited when the video got to that part...

    nonetheless, it wasn't too bad.

Thats because that is the american version. I first saw it on that MTV Espanol jams station where they show videos all day on digital cable.
The channel is 142. The video is still in english though.

You should of known american version would cut that out. But she actually does kiss him. But like I said I did research and she is the only non-black girl/ non hip hop star to feature a black man as her love interest
and have kissing scene with him. You won't see christina augliera, jessica simpson, faith hill, etc. doing that, I found that to be a mile stone because you could kind of go by the way she looks in the video she is trying to pull off a white woman.

I wasn't being naive about the editing. I was just giving my opinion on the video, but I'm with you on this for the most part.

Love the video. But Jack Johnson as a lover? Think I will pass. He beat the living shit out of the women in his life. I have enormous respect for him as a boxer, but as a partner he wasnt worth a shit.

It's great to back up claims with concrete evidence, you know?

I have read most every book available about him (even his own autobiography) and own the PBS documentary about his life. If you want to know, try studying him yourself. It is fact. He hospitalized Etta Duryea and beat all the others continually.

 I had heard that too about him and that's wrong big time if he did do those things to his women. :? However I still have to give props to him and to SHAKIRA for making the vid in the first place :!: Alot of white and/or Latin pop stars wouldn't have done anything like that.

I agree. I would never take from him the credit he is due, because he did a lot for a lot of people. He broke the racial barier in boxing and pro sports in general. Each time he stepped into the ring, there was a VERY real chance he could have been killed. Many black people were killed in the riots that broke out over his victories. He has my respect for many things, just not for how he treated the women in his life. And the fact that they were white has no relevance to me as a woman.

Our heros are human. They will never be perfect in every aspect of their lives. The man I have the most respect for is Muhammad Ali. He was a shit husband, cheated constantly and had many wives. It doesnt affect how I feel about him because I am not his partner. I respect him for what he has done for boxing, American Muslims and for the world.

Same for Ghandi, Kennedy, Clinton and many more. I respect them for their constributions and their place in history. But they were all shit husbands.

I do not know much of Shakira, but I do love her video. Not only did she feature a black man as her love interest, she made him a boxer in a time when boxing is in serious trouble. Props to her for both.

And who knows, maybe it is not even supposed to be Jack Johnson. I have been reading around to see what she has to say about it and havent found her saying why or if it was a tribute to him. Truth be told, it isnt even the right era for him anyways. Her dress and hair indicates the early forties (Veronica Lake) and Jack was the first part of the turn of the century.
