 CUBA GOODING, JR. AND HELEN MIRREN STAR IN COMPELLING THRILLER: (November 6, 2006) Los Angeles – The emotionally-charged, full throttle thriller Shadowboxer comes to DVD on November 7, 2006, from Codeblack Entertainment. Fresh off of a successful, summer theatrical release campaign, Shadowboxer on DVD will provide an even larger audience the opportunity to experience the film’s controversy, contradiction and stellar cast. Shadowboxer delves deep into the harsh underworld of organized crime and uncovers the complex lives of trained assassins Mikey (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) and Rose (Helen Mirren). But when a brutal crime boss wants his wife dead, Rose has a change of heart when they find her pregnant. And so, the three begin a harrowing life on the run. Driven by fierce love, Rose and Mikey protect their adopted family from present danger –looking to redeem their tragic past. An intense mix of action, sex and suspense, this dark film noir is the most compelling movie of the year. The star-studded cast also includes film favorite Stephen Dorff, comedian Mo’Nique in her first dramatic role, multi- platinum recording artist Macy Gray, Spider-Man 2’s Vanessa Ferlito and Gotham Award Nominee Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Film critics from across the country have raved about Shadowboxer. Robert Koehler of Daily Variety said the film is, “magnificently rendered by Daniels… exotic… sheer daring… packed with sparkling supporting turns.” The Richmond Times-Dispatch’s Daniel Newman proclaimed Shadowboxer, “the sort of movie you can’t take your eyes off of.” The Philadelphia Inquirer said audiences will be “riveted”, while Filmmaker Magazine said it was a “stylish, art house thriller.” Shadowboxer marks the directorial debut of Lee Daniels, producer of the Academy Award© nominated film Monsters Ball and the critically acclaimed film The Woodsman. In this taut thriller, Daniels continues to draw characters and stories from the darkest edges of life. Unafraid to tackle controversial social issues, Daniels carves out his own creative niche in independent cinema, marked by a commitment to multi-dimensional representations of African-Americans. “Shadowboxer was a labor of love for me as well as the cast who whole-heartedly embraced the spirit and challenges of independent filmmaking,” says Daniels. “I’m proud of the way Shadowboxer pushes boundaries and challenges our societies traditional notions regarding race, sexuality, family and age.” “To have the racial mix as well as the age mix gave it an extra twist that I thought was very interesting,” Helen Mirren has said of Shadowboxer. And Cuba Gooding, Jr., who is nominated for a Best Actor 2006 Black Movie Award for his work in the film, has said he believes that Shadowboxer appeals to a broad, open-minded audience “who aren’t afraid of controversy and think out of the box in terms of relationships.” Shadowboxer will be available at retailers nationwide beginning November 7, 2006. DVD bonus features include a commentary track by Lee Daniels and Cuba Gooding, Jr., plus a behind the scenes Making of Shadowboxer Featurette.
