Now that more info has come out, the headline "shot for jumping fare" may not be all that went down, imo.

We don't know if he ran because of a fare jump, or if they shot at him because of a fare jump. Cop are saying he shot at them first. Time will tell.

I don't think Ymra was saying he was a suspect in the murder of a pregnant woman, so he should be shot, the issue here is that may have played into the circumstances that went down. He was out on parole for pimping a 14 yr old girl, in the wrong jurisdiction for that parole, and was being detained on the platform by the cops...when he suddenly bolted. Exactly what motivated him to bolt is the question...the fare, or something else?

Because if you are detained, cops have a right to search you. If ballistics come back that his gun killed the pregnant woman on Saturday, it might explain his paranoia and why he ran, not to mention he can't have a gun per his parole.

Also there are recordings of 10 shots fired, but only 9 came from the cops guns. Who fired the 10th shot?

At .15 seconds in the right hand corner, what appears to be captured on film on the ground is a silver revolver about 25 feet ahead of him. If you pause it you will see it.

Anyway, I kinda feel that if you shoot at cops, all bets are off and you're signing your death warrant.

Some said he was surrendering at the time, but again, if you shoot at cops and try to surrender, the gun wont be 25 feet ahead of you which sounds like he was still running when he dropped and his gun flew.

Police have shot dead a teenager who fired on police following him after he failed to pay his train fare.

Kenneth Harding Jr appeared to fire first in a brief gunfight in San Francisco.

It seems the 19-year-old feared the police were actually tracking him over the violation of his parole, which restricted him to Washington state.

Police later linked the gun he was carrying to the recent shooting death of a pregnant woman in Seattle.

Police chief Greg Suhr said Harding fired the first shot at two officers on Saturday, who shot back about nine times.

Harding was pronounced dead after the chase in the Bayview-Hunters Point area.

The police chief told reporters the officers were well within their authority when shooting at Harding, who fired while running away.

Police said the 10 shots were exchanged in six seconds.

The officers 'knew that their lives were in jeopardy and at that point they returned fire,' Mr Suhr said.

'The officers are permitted to fire until they think the threat has ended.'

A gunshot-detection system used by San Francisco police also concluded that Harding shot first, Cmdr. Mikail Ali said as he played audio for reporters of the 10 shots fired.

Mr Suhr did not release the names of the officers, who have been put on standard paid leave as the incident is under investigation.

In April, Harding was released from a Washington state prison after he served 22 months for attempting to promote prostitution involving a 14-year-old girl in King County, said San Francisco police Lt. Hector Sainez.

Harding was in violation of his parole by being in San Francisco, Mr Suhr said.

Harding was a person of interest in last Wednesday's shooting death of Tanaya Gilbert, 19, in South Seattle, Mr Sainez said.

Family members said Miss Gilbert was several weeks pregnant. Three other people were also injured in that shooting.

However, Seattle police Det. Mark Jamieson said he could not confirm that Harding was linked to those shootings.

Rose Bankston, Miss Gilbert's aunt, told The Seattle Times on Sunday that the victim's mother, Chekel Cox, had been told by Seattle police that ballistics tests would be conducted on a .45-caliber pistol recovered after the San Francisco incident to see if it was used in the killing of Miss Gilbert.

Mr Suhr said yesterday: 'We have a gun. However, I can't confirm that is indeed the same weapon.'

Ballistics, DNA and gunshot residue exams will be done to see if that gun recovered by investigators late on Saturday is also the same firearm Harding fired at police, the chief said.

A gun flew out of Harding's hand some 15 feet after he was shot, Mr Sainez said.

Police retrieved a firearm later thanks to cell phone video taken after the shooting was posted online showing a man wearing a gray-striped hooded sweat shirt picking it up and running off with it.

'I applaud the courage of these witnesses to come forward in such a volatile environment,' Mr Suhr said.

'They confirmed that the suspect fired upon the officers before they returned fire.'

Meanwhile, a makeshift memorial created for Harding continued to grow as frustrated Bayview-area residents and community leaders questioned the officer-involved shooting.

'They believe no one will call them out and hold them accountable, and that's the situation we're trying to change, said Jeremy Miller, co-director of SF Education Not Incarceration.

Witness Henry Taylor, 54, recalled the shooting and said: 'The bullets flew. He was shot viciously. He lay there and bled in front of everybody,' Taylor said. 'It was traumatising.'

Mr Suhr, who oversaw the Bayview area for the Police Department and helped cut homicides in half before becoming police chief, said he was sensitive to residents' concerns.

'Just one incident like this is such a huge setback to what our community policing efforts have been,' he said, adding that officials will try to show the community the shooting occurred as police say.

Supervisor Malia Cohen, who represents the area where the incident occurred, said she intends to review the results of the internal police investigation.

Well I think at this point, the "fare" reasoning might be losing ground as to why he ran.

He's out on parole in Seattle...but is suddenly in San Fransisco on Saturday -that's almost 700 miles out of jurisdiction. That's a 16 hour drive by car/train/bus. Curious as to why he would risk leaving Seattle to go to another State?

BTW, some even crazier update...

There is a bullet lodged in his neck that doesn't match the service revolvers the cops fired, or the gun found at the scene, but he had a bullet matching his neck on him....this is getting way messy...and about to blow up.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A police shooting that stirred community outcry and street protests took a stunning turn Thursday when investigators said they now believe a 19-year-old Washington parolee being sought for questioning in a Seattle murder fatally shot himself in the neck.

Kenneth Harding died Saturday in what San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr previously described as a shootout with police in which Harding fired the first shot.

However, police Cmdr. Mike Biel said Thursday that preliminary autopsy results showed the caliber of the bullet that killed 19-year-old Kenneth Harding did not match the caliber used by police.

"We believe that the fatal wound on Mr. Harding's body was self-inflicted," Biel said.

John Sanchez, a criminalist at the San Francisco Crime Lab, said the .380-caliber bullet found in Harding's head was not consistent with the.40-caliber guns issued to San Francisco police.

"The bullet could not have been fired from any department-issued firearm," Sanchez said.

Medical personnel found an unfired .380-caliber bullet in Harding's right jacket pocket, but the gun itself was not recovered, Biel said.

"We want to take this opportunity to reach out to the community in locating the correct weapon," Biel said. "We believe the weapon that we are looking for is a .380-caliber handgun."

A gun recovered by police late Saturday as part of the investigation was a .45-caliber pistol and could not have fired the fatal shot, police said.

The only other wound to Harding was a gunshot to his left leg, according to Chief Medical Examiner Amy Hart.

Authorities had not determined whether Harding shot himself on purpose or by accident, police said.

Harding was the main person of interest in last week's South Seattle shooting death of 19-year-old Tanaya Gilbert, Seattle police said. A Seattle police spokesman said he did not have information on the caliber of the gun used in the shooting of Gilbert. No weapon was recovered in that case, Seattle police Detective Mark Jamieson said.

In April, Harding was released from a Washington state prison after he served 22 months for attempting to promote prostitution involving a 14-year-old girl in King County.

Harding had initially been stopped by police in a routine check for fare-beaters on the city's light-rail train system, police said after Saturday's shooting.

Police said Tuesday that gunshot residue on Harding's right hand backed officers' accounts that Harding had fired the first shot, as did audio of the shots captured by a gunshot-detection system used by San Francisco police.

On Tuesday, 43 people were arrested in a raucous rush-hour march to protest Harding's death at the hands of what all believed at the time was police.

On Wednesday night, Suhr was shouted down at a town hall meeting in the city's Bayview neighborhood a short distance from where the shooting took place.

Keevin O'Brien, a minister who co-organized Wednesday's meeting, said he was still trying to process Thursday's developments.

"Nonetheless, we have a dead young man that could've probably changed his life if the police had gotten to him sooner," O'Brien said. "This should not have happened the way it did."

O'Brien said the Bayview community is going to have a hard time with the findings.

"They're not going to believe this," O'Brien said. "They're so broken and hurt by what they already saw. This is going to be hard to digest."

Biel said Thursday that he also understands likely cynicism in the community.

"I understand how the community feels, however, our investigation is based on total fact. That's what we have now," Biel said.

O'Brien said he planned on going out in the community Thursday evening to "check its pulse
