Thanks, Athena. IMO, I was a good correctional officer. The hardest part wasn't dealing with the inmates; it was dealing with the prison politics. Dealing with the chicken-chokers (which is what I called the inmates who jerked off in front of female officers or who'd put their dicks on display) was irritating as hell. When I first became an officer, it used to piss me off when they'd do that shit, & I'd threaten things like, 'I'm gonna break that thing off & kick it around on the ground' & I recall telling one guy who was acting like he was about to put on a show, 'If I get even a glimpse of that piece of shit, I'll break it off & you'll eat the motherfucker', LOL.

As I became a more seasoned officer, I'd use other tactics...I'd point & laugh, say things like, 'aww...what a cute LITTLE thing', etc...humiliation always worked best & I was pretty creative with thinking of ways to embarrass 'em. It's kinda funny because after a while, you seldom even notice anymore. Believe it or not, depending on how you carry yourself, most of the inmates will show you respect. You have to be a balanced person to be an effective CO. If I hadn't moved away for a couple of years, I'd probably still be working there. The politics make it not the easiest environment, but now that I'm older I'd probably have fewer problems if I ever decided to go back to that. The first time around I was 22, female & had a mixed kid...those things made me a target for the assholes I worked for/with...small town people tend to suck.

It was a trip sometimes due to the power-tripping fools working there, but there was actually a lot I liked about working in corrections. Sometimes I even miss it. I see people I used to work for/with all the time where I work now as customers. It's funny, some of the assholes who used to give me such a hard time actually ask me from time to time if I'll come back to work out there after all the effort they put into trying to run me off. Who knows, maybe I'll work corrections again some day.
