A Nevada state senator came out as gay this week during an emotional debate with his fellow lawmakers over the possible repeal of a state ban on same-sex marriage. Nevada state Sen. Kelvin Atkinson, a Democrat representing North Las Vegas, told fellow senators Monday that he was gay during a legislative debate on the potential repeal. "I'm black. I'm gay," Atkinson said, according to the Las Vegas Sun. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/nevada-state-sen-kelvin-atkinson-gay-article-1.1324944
Why is it always blacks coming out as gay? There are gay people who are black but it's kind of suspect that all these BM are coming out of the closet in loads like this.
It's not all that surprising given that the black community is more conservative (collectively speaking) when it comes to things like this, so there are traditional roots to hide who you are and the fear of being shunned and shamed all out of fear. A love-hate relationship if you will. But now, since that trigger was pulled, the barriers of discomfort slowly decayed and we're witnessing more people coming out and be more open about themselves.
The far right will tell you the three trends that are leading to the decline of the United States morally, sprituallly and socially are (1) Mexicans, (2) muslims, and (3) gays. I do not believe this. I say let people live their lives and stop this insane persecution of those who simply want to live out their lives. It's a human right you know.
