He is probably going to get an earful from the "shoot 'em all" wing of his party.

I'm surprised he had the stones to do this. Since he was race-baited by W's campaign in the 2000 Republican Primary, he has been too spooked to be the moderate, non-racist he used to be. Good to see him moving back to the Jack Kemp pro-science wing of their party.

But we are told repeatedly that 'more Whites are on Food Stamps', so how the heck is this deemed as 'the GOP attacking Blacks" in politics'? :smt017

I sometimes see a lot of white families in line to sign up for food stamps. I don't think politicians on either side really look at the lines that are often outside of the building.

The rhetoric is that cutting social welfare programs disproportionately affects Black families, which is probably true.

Also many politicians believe food stamps are primarily utilized by Black folk,(remember Newt Gingrich calling Obama the 'food stamp President'??).

Buzzwords like welfare, foodstamps, public assistance, etc to many White people mean BLACK.

I bet most the congressman who voted to cut welfare did so thinking it would hurt Black folk the most.

I think it's a regional thing. In my area, that's true. Black and brown, predominately.

Hmmm, IDK @ last line, I think they KNOW who is on food stamps and who is not.

However I think they ALSO know that while more Whites in sum total are on food-stamps, compared to the rest of the white population, it's not as high a number comparatively.

If you factor in the ratio of Black people on food-stamps compared to the Black populous, the numbers of Black people collectively is hurt more, which could have been their motivation.

Currently, there are 103 million people enrolled in any one of 15 subsidized federal food assistance programs. (The most people in our nation's history, though it should be noted some are double or triple-dipping). Almost 48 million Americans are on SNAP.

According to SNAP's website's demographic data, 43% of SNAP participants are white, 33% are African-American, 19% are Hispanic, 2% are Asian, and 2% are Native American.

(U.S pop., rounded to next highest #)
White or European American 224 million 72 % population
Black or African American 39 million 12 % population

So while it will hurt some whites, it will hurt a lot of blacks in the total scheme, judging by the Federal numbers.

    from the article:
"The text summary read: “Provides that it is an affirmative defense to a violation of a municipal ordinance that prohibits, regulates or restricts the private ownership of firearms if the individual who is charged with the violation used the firearm in an act of self-defense or defense of another. Effective immediately.”

that article's headline is a stretch
