    Barack is the shit.

Meanwhile, Bush pushes for a $210 billion dollar bond on more war money.

And more war money and more and a little bit more.

And right before he leaves office, he's gonna need us to cough up another $50billion dollars for more war money. There's never enough.

Oh yea, $1billion of it will go into his and all his buddies pockets. The rest will go to defense and the war on 'terror'. ooooo the big bad 'terror'. its a joke.

this war is costing us a lot..and the price is only going to get steeper..

if I recall correctly, some high-level us officials were saying that, Iraq alone, would take many more years to straighten out..

barack was saying that, he would like to pull the troops out early, within the next couple of years or sooner..

    figure that one out...

    we started a mess..

    yes we did..

as long as the Iraqi security forces (army/law enforcement) are unable to control their country properly, we're going to be in for a long, long time..

unless we pull a vietnam, withdrawal, and let the guerillas take over

    On a further note:

"President Bush on Monday, February 4, 2008 submitted a $3.1-trillion budget for the next fiscal year that reflected his strategy for dealing with a costly war...

The new budget would increase Pentagon spending by 8.1% -- to $518.3 billion, plus add an additional $70 billion to fight terrorism."
    - Peter G. Gosselin, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
    February 5, 2008

Our current National Debt as of today is

    $9,252,878,684,084.

    $9.2 Trillion dollars!!

And he's asking for another $3.1 trillion to send the debt through the roof!!

    lol..

the debt is only going to get higher..

the Marines want more MRAP ( v-shaped carriers to replace the current humvees..designed to deflect upward mineblasts, instead of absorbing them along a flat platform, such as the current floor of a humvee) vehicles..

I know the military is constantly trying to recruit and retain troops, which isn't exactly free either..

then you got the need to farther increase special forces capacity, whose troops carry much more expensive kit, than regular troops, due to the nature of some of our current conflicts..

not to mention the next-generation fighter aircraft that costs millions of dollars, that are supposed to be phased into the military "soon"

the list goes on and on..

our nation is a nation built for war, much like Rome..

and with that, comes a price..

if we give up that price, what will happen to us?

"This includes $45.6 billion for military aircraft, including $6.7 billion to buy 16 more F-35 stealth planes. The F-35 is still in its early stages; the Pentagon has, to date, spent only about one-tenth of what it estimates to be a $300 billion program. It's not too late to ask if we need such a costly, sophisticated fighter jet, given that air-to-air combat is not likely to be a major element of future wars and, to the extent that it might be, we're way ahead—in numbers and technology—of any prospective foe. Or let's accept the proposition that China's air force is going to be a formidable rival by the year 2020: Do we need to tear full-speed ahead on the F-35 now? Could we slow the program down and see how things shape up?"

What's Obama going to do about this type of lofty spending??

    :p

look on the bright side tho... if we ever needed to shoot down enemy pilots, flying old dusty mig-21s, or bomb a country, with slingshots and rubber balls as their main source of Air Defense, we'd have something really new, bright, and sparkly to do it with..

unless we went to war with the United Kingdom, or the EU, we really don't need this new space-aged tech, when we still have access to our current air squadrons, which do a d@mn good job already with minimal losses.

It's not about going in debt over war.

You can have the defense without the debt.

Its irrational spending and use of resources.

Practically no country has 1 trillion dollars of debt.

good point.. but we aren't defending much... just invading, rebuilding, equipping, invading some more, couple daisy cutters here and there, rebuilding some more, attacking men in caves with laser guided bombs, and dropping 20,000 MOAB (seriously, do we really need to be dropping 20,000lb bombs)

    as far as irrational spending..

    in the US government..

    absurd..

    /sarcasm

    :)

time to send a couple more spaceships to pluto

Wait until the future comes and space-based weapons systems

    you know..

incase we need to orbital strike a couple ninjas in downtown Kosovo

    eeeeek!

don't forget researching for military installations on the Moon..

..because..we didn't send men to the moon in the 60s, for shits and giggles..

funny you would mention this country and debt tho.....

"At a time when the U.S. faces historic debt, NASA announced last week its intention to establish a permanent base on the Moon by 2024. There has long been a military connection to NASA's Moon missions. The NASA plan to establish permanent bases on the Moon will help the military "control and dominate" access on and off our planet Earth and determine who will extract valuable resources from the Moon in the years ahead. The taxpayers will be asked to pay the enormously expensive "research and development" costs of this program that in the end will profit the aerospace industry and those corporation like Bechtel that intend to build the bases and extract resources on the Moon. "

how much is that going to cost us??

    whooppppieeee!

I was hoping this was a bogus story..but national geographic/cnn, has similar findings...about building a Base on the Moon, anyway.... the rest is just anti-weapon activist group rhetoric

whether or not this country is facing "historic" debt, has yet to be determined..

Hey y'all I have about 35 decillion saved up to put toward the national debt.

    That would look like this:

35,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000........of course it's all monopoly money...but hey at this rate...our currency will be worth less than Monopoly $$$

Good thing we have the expert economists in this thread!

I would like to know what you all do for a living? Study the national debt, or just make stupid remarks about it while knowing absolutely NOTHING about the correlation between national debt and national WEALTH.

Maybe you all should take a break from your 30k a year job and try going back to school and taking an Economics 101 course. Your intelligence(or lack of) is astounding.

Yea, good thing we have "experts" that like to be assholes!

I'm a Business/Econ major and I do take things into account. I appreciate the links. Great info from almost 2 years ago. You can prove points without calling others complete dumbshits. Way uncalled for. Just thought I'd return the favor.

2 years ago? Apparently, your reading comprehension skills need work. It doesn't matter if it was 2 years ago. The same basic economic principles still apply when applying national debt to national wealth.

But the bashing in here is RETARDED because people who know absolutely NOTHING on the subject are stating things as if they were fact. I'm not a supporter of Bush either, but the last DEM in office cut the funding of the military and 4 consequent terrorist attacks later, we learned a lesson.
