She will divide the women's vote. There are plenty of liberal women with better sense than to use those Diebold touch screen machines to vote for Palin. But I agree that many Americans are racists and idiots.

A majority of white Americans vote Republican. But, Obama received a substantial number of white votes. She does not speak for all white people.

He got most of the white vote because the Republicans supported a candidate who represented more of the same. A person who reminded the American people of the Bush regime. Make no mistake my friend, this country is as racist as it ever has been and we plainly see that with this president. White people in general are not comfortable with a black man leading them. I know he won a lot of the votes but it took two wars and the worst financial collapse in 70 years for us to get a viable black candidate.

As I said earlier, we are dealing with racism 3.0 ie covert racism. It's not state-sponsored, but the old resentments are still there. It's hard to understand how employers would be so reluctant to hire blacks when they hire dark skinned foreigners. Or, you could look at all the people who voted for Obama on the racist that he had dark skin but he was not as black as most African Americans. Somehow they thought that made him an acceptable black man.

This country is changing very slowly. It's not changing as quickly as you and I would like but there is some hope. What has to happen is that Generations X and Y are going to have to bring up children who are nonracist and are willing to celebrate differences.

Most white people over 45 grew up in a binary black/white world. Many of the white ones are not willing to accept a diverse America in which all people are valued. Many of the black people over 45 are still holding on to the old hurts and the idea that all black people must think and act alike. The older people are unable to change, but we younger people can change the racial climate of this country.

The conservatives downright do not want to accept us, but they are quiet about it. The liberals are willing to accept a few blacks as long as they don't have to make meaningful changes in the status quo. What we need is a fundamental change in the status quo that will result in people of all races receiving acceptance, not just a few exceptional individuals like Bill Cosby and Oprah Winfrey.

Yet it is wrong to underestimate the change that happened when Obama was elected. Electing a man who did not look like the 43 previous presidents was a giant step. Like I said, things are changing in America.

You presented a fair and honest arguement my friend. I'm compelled to agree. Good post.

Obama is not a great debater, but he is much shrewder than Hillary. He is the president. She isn't. That's what counts.
