*Flash*: I just read that 50 Cent, Jessica Biel and Christina Ricci have been added to the cast of this movie.

Latina actress, Eva Mendes will star with Sam Jackson and Brian Presley in a war drama titled HOME OF THE BRAVE.

Directed by Irwin Winkler, the story centers on three soldiers who've recently returned from a long tour in Iraq and have a hard time re-adjusting to their lives.

Jackson plays a doctor who has been stationed in Iraq for several months and when he comes back from the war he is changed for the worse.

Mendes plays his sexy wife who is thrilled that he is returning home and to his regular practice as a doctor. However, the man she sent away to war is not the same man that has returned. To her shock and dismay, her husband is rapidly unraveling before her eyes.

Principal photography for "Home of the Brave" is set for late February 2006 in Spokane, WA and Morocco.

The very talented, Mendes, has starred in several hit movies like: Once Upon a Time in Mexico (starring Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek), 2 Fast, 2 Furious, Out of Time (with Denzel Washington) the Farrelly brothers' Stuck On You (starring Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear), Hitch (with Will Smith) and the movie adaptation of the comic book Ghost Rider with Nicolas Cage.

Sounds great...Hey Kid...where you get this information?

There are so many movies and TV shows nowadays with an interracial romance that it is not even mentioned as part of the plot and it is getting hard to keep up with

Its still the compromise of a Latina, IE "anything but white".

Yes, but it is happening in other places too even with white women. I'll give an example. Last night here in the US I happened to see a show called "Cuts" (I think) and their was a very attractive blond blue eyed white woman on there that hooked up with a black guy. No racial issue was mentioned at all. Just two people hooking up.

The fact that Heidi Klum MARRIED Seal and it has not poisoned her career (she was #11 in ask men's top 99) shows a lot to me.

Certainly we have not reached the day when an Angelina Jolie, a Sandra Bullock or a Scarlett Johansen can star as a love interest to a black guy, but it is getting there. And all it will take is the combination of a good movie and one of the A list actresses with the courage to do it and that barrier will come down.

Look at the glass as half full

Yes things are better, but the racism is more underhand now. They seem to think that pairing a bm off with a latina is giving them a bit of IR while "protecting" their white princesses from the bm's grasp. This whole anything but white is insulting to the latinas and bw alike, they're not the next best thing to white women or the closest to white without being black, they're an ethnic group of their own. This skin politics is ridiculous.

Welcome to America! The fact is, American TV (free & cable) is doing a much better job on the IR relationship front....movies are way behind.

It seems rather shit. I just don't see it here, I really don't. Now I'm not stupid, there are racists about, some shout their mouths of others don't. But in terms of TV I see IR on British TV all the time, and most of the time the fact that their an IR couple isn't made into a big deal, or even part of the storyline at all. This is how it should be.

I agree, that is how it should be. Not where we want to be, but I think it is getting there. Even this website put on their front page the IR in 'Four Brothers' which was also bm/latina

I will say that after thinking about it that bm/latina is happening so often now in the past 2-3 years that I hope there is not a backlash and we go backwards (back to rarely seeing it) instead of forward.

Thinking about it further, Latinas have simply replaced light skinned black women as love interests. Still like to see it though. Especially with beautiful women like Eva Mendes Roselyn Sanchez, and Jessica Alba.

Well Wesley snipes fucks a white woman in pretty much almost ALL his films. Look back at them all and see. Murder at 1600 (Diane lane), U.S. Marshals (white woman), one night stand (Natasha kinsski), 7 seconds (white woman), jungle fever (white woman), liberty stands still (white woman), etc. The only time I can remember him with a black woman was in the first Blade film and Waiting to Exhale where he seduces Angela Basset. Sean Patrick Thomas with Julia Stiles in Save the Last Dance, he also is in a small role in Cruel Intentions (Ryan Philippe and Sarah Michelle Geller) where he has a crush on a white girl and Geller hooks them up (then sets them up to get caught by her racist mom). Progress IS being made. In many Denzel films he has a white woman close by. He Got Game, Fallen, The Inside Man, Malcolm X, Pelican Brief, etc. I do not think studios are running from these films and I do not think they automatically fail at the box office just because there is a BM/WW romance in it. I really believe we have gotten past that. Plus as we all know, controversy sells. The good news is, a BM and WW is no longer controversial, which is a good thing. It means we have come to where we want to be. Where it is a non issue. I think there are not enough made because they just cannot come up with good concepts where it is more than just the cliche "will they stay together" crap.

While Wesley Snipes does get some interracial action in his movies his, let's call it average, as compared to equivalent white actors is paltry.

Many of the films to which you refer do not have any significant bm/ww physical contact, and in the Blade films, Blade is essentially a eunuch. In Pelican Brief there's nothing. In the book there was but they removed it from the movie.

As for your statement about people being past bm/ww sexuality, I believe that you are incorrect. The lead actress in Jungle Fever got tons of death threats. Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel got death threats. Contrast that with Thandie Newton or Stacy Dash and their white husbands who to my knowledge received no such things. This another reason that a movie like Something New is such bullshit, as Sanaa Lathans character acts as if the mild negativity she gets is the end of the world, when if the racial roles were reversed it would likely be more intense.

Also note that in most movies the goal is for the white hero to win the day AND get a love interest. In films with a "black hero" the love interest is thrown out the window, and he merely wins the day. Hell, in some of these movies with non white actors as the lead the fucking sidekick, see "The Rundown" or "Formula 51" actually gets the pussy while the lead is too busy being heroic to get any action. Again contrast this with Terminator where while being chased by the most deadly robot on earth, there's still time for the white male and female leads to get it on. And in the very next shot the Terminator kicks the door in a sprays the room with bullets.

So, if progress is being made it is so incremental that it might as well not be noted. We should push for more progress and stop accepting limp fraudulent substitutes.

I believe that the portrayal of more BM/WW hookups in movies could be made possible by no one but the actors themselves. However, i also know for a fact that a lot of the black actors in Hollywood have a huge BW fanbase and would not want to diminish that as they believe thats the only place they get support. Lets face it, there are not many mainstream black actors in Hollyweird with the exception of Will Smith, Denzel, Morgan Freeman and the rest of them. All the above named are popular with BW and i can remember a rumor about Denzel having a clause in his contract that grants him the right to refuse a role involving a WW. As sad as i believe that is, i kinda understand where he is coming from as we all know that the majority of movie-goers are white and well, you know quite well that white America doesn't want to see a black hunk kissing and smooching a white honey.

Having said all of the above, i also acknowledge that if there were more people like Kanye West who would do things non-chalantly and not give a crap what America thought, bm/ww dating in movies would be much more tolerated. Look at Sidney Poitier and Wesley Snipes, two men who've had quite a number of successful movies. The former has been acting for more than 40 years and is happily married to his wife of many years, similarly with the latter. A lot of their movies have involved WW(think Jungle Fever and Guess Who's Coming To Dinner) which undoubtedly caused controversy in this bigoted nation of ours but were they successful?Yes. Did the duo continue to have other successful projects? Yes. Are the duo happily married? Yes. To summarise all of that, to see more BM/WW hookups in movies, the black actors should stop shying away from that and instead challenge those barriers as running from a problem does not solve it. I know for a fact that not every WW is interested in kissing a BM- i'm waiting to hear Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston or Sandra Bullock act alongside a brotha- but at the same time there are a few who dont mind it. It just is a shame that the main actresses in Hollywood, that is people in the leagues of Cam Diaz and Angelina Jolie, are scared its gonna put a huge dent in their careers. But then again there you go with the conformative, low-mindedness of American WW.

    LMC,

I really believe Angelina Jolie wouldn't have any problem doing romance/love scenes with bruthas....as a matter of fact, I believe she did an indie flick where she got with Mekhi Phifer -- 'Hell's Kitchen'....rent it on DVD.

    GOOD NEWS:

I read the genre part of this movie and it said interracial as one of the genres along with war. All we have to figure out is with who.
