Andrei Nesterenko said Monday Russian ships are to visit Venezuela before the year's end and the two navies could hold a joint exercise. The Russian statement came after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced the maneuvers in his Sunday television and radio program. Chavez said Russian ships are due to call at Venezuelan ports in late November or December. Nesterenko said the joint exercise wouldn't be directed against any third country.
I don't believe what Putin says on third parties. He is mad that the world press didn't take the bait on the Georgian situation. Now since the US is in the Black Sea,he wants payback so I won't be surprised of Russian ships in Venezuelan waters.
what's the big deal? we're always holding joint exercises across the globe I do remember when Russia was around Cuba, during the 60s, which caused us to upgrade our DEFCON status in preparation of nuclear war. I don't think it's that deep now as for the Georgia thing... we sent an Aegis-class missile cruiser (why send a warship armed with cruise missiles and nukes, instead of a cargo ship or something?) to deliver aid to them, during their crisis with Russia... so like ya'll said..Russia can't be too happy about that little show of force.
The aegis ship doesn't have nukes. Its equipped to counter most attacks. So it would be good ship to escort aid in a war zone.
