Russia's space defense capabilities are in shambles and lag far behind the United States, said a group of retired Russian military leaders.

"Frankly, our space defense capabilities are limited and insufficient to ensure our national security," former Air Force Cmdr. Anatoly Kornukov said at an air and space defense conference.

The Russian defense industry cannot meet the demand for advanced weapons, putting the nation at least 25 to 30 years behind U.S. development of space defense weapons, said Anatoly Sitnov, a former chief of armament procurement for the Russian Armed Forces.

Sitnov described Russia's space defense capabilities as being in "shambles," RIA Novosti reported.

Sitnov said Russia had abandoned key projects, including a shuttle space freighter, a strategic airlift plane, a manned military spacecraft and several missile projects.

"Who owns space, owns the world," Sitnov told the conference.

I would like to give a lot of credit to the Late President Ronald Reagan who pushed the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) for it's basic research which has given us a vast foundation in satillites, supercomputers, kinetic missiles, sophisticated radars, lasers and many other technologies. Why do you think the Russians back then were so afraid of SDI. Unfortunately, the Democrats gave them (The Russians) want they wanted. They nearly killed the program after Reagan thanks to President Bill Clinton.

I give Gorby more credit for ending the Soviet Union than Reagan. The reason his last two predecessors did not budge and the Cold War would had lasted a few more years had those men lived.

    Agreed.

Alot of people dispute me on this, but I *seriously* believe that the Hammer-And-Sickle *will* rise again in Russia....as long as Putin remains at the helm.
