Rush Limbaugh says something completely uninformed that serves as gospel for covertly and overtly anti-black conservatives...SHOCKING.
Why hasn't anyone called out these morons as examples of white 'victimhood'? His "Woe is us" line is nauseating.
What white people call rights, they are saying privilege. Before Obama won in 2008, an article in the Miami Herald said that Obama's win is a threat to "white privilege." That's what Limbaugh and all these other folks are saying and will keep saying until the end of time. Limbaugh is stating that it was the fault of African tribal chief who traded people for goods. But, again, his family did not grow up in bondage or suffer the subjugation and degradation that the slave trade served up.
And in their mind this privilege is perfectly legitimate, and any threat to it is 'reverse discrimination'.
Someone should tell Limbaugh if he knowingly buys stolen merchandise, he's not absolved of personal responsibility because he didn't originally steal it. Why do so many people listen to this crank religiously?? He's been the same asshole for almost 30 years, yet some people covet every word that comes out his mouth. This fool even had the GOP pimped during the primaries in '08 and '12.
Rush Limbaugh has the ear of the GOP. They listen to him and will continue to do so. He is one this county's most influential people(he is a good communicator to his fanbase). He is their entertainment. He even made vocal appearances on Family Guy. He even appeared on an episode of The Drew Carey Show. Of course there was the infamous NFL on Fox show where he showed his true colors. He later stated that Fox knew what he was about when they asked him and so they let him be himself.
Limbaugh has been a trip for years. He even said he hopes Obama would fail in his presidency. The same guy with a Oxy problem. I would love to hear his commentary when he was high on "hillbilly heroin".
I remember his problem with painkillers. You should hear the dittoheads calling in to say that painkillers are hard to get off of. And that he should get help and not jailtime. He once said the he wanted Obama to succeed, but after he got snubbed because he couldn't get Obama on his show for a debate, that's when he wished he failed. And then he accused actor Michael J. Fox of faking his Parkinson's Disease. Michael J. Fox was not impressed and was pissed.
Rush could have actually made a decent argument. I am a fan of History, and have a scary knowledge of history. Talking about the history of the United States Slavery is very much white people's fault, and even writings of the day argued that negroes needed to be kept in line, and that god made negroes to serve the White man. Slavery was not only the fault of white people but also a horrible act justified by racism, and capitalism. Most products America exported in the early days where stuff from plantations labored by slaves. This nations economy literally flourished on the backs of laboring Slaves, and for Rush to not acknowledge that when discussing slavery is un-American. That being said can it be argued that Slavery cannot be 100% percent blamed on white people? He can make the assertion that no one condemns nations in the middle east or Brazil in spite of the fact they took way more slaves from Africa then the United States. Rush can point out non white peoples have enslaved each other, and others. Hell people in the Middle East enslaved everyone including white people on numerous occasions. Of course the idea of Europeans being enslaved by brown people is to offensive for history books, and implies a certain race as not being superior peoples. In fact the noble Vikings praised, and admired by so many white supremacists used to sell other europeans they captured to Muslims. He also can even make the assertion that the Transatlantic did rely in part on cooperation from corrupt Warlords, and leaders in Africa who sold out their own people for Rum, and Guns. But Rush Limbaugh did not crack open any history books or do his own research.
He and others of his ilk will even use scripture to justify slavery since slavery had been around in those times.
They did, and quite honestly you can! The bible at that time period was used to condone slavery, and many preachers at that time period did it. Honestly though the scriptures quite clearly support man's right to enslave, and own others. In fact the bible says its alright to kill, and enslave people who do not believe in god. The bible is not a moral book of goodness, and never will be. It has some great stories, and tales but as an instruction manual or guide to life is ridiculous. However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT) When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB) Some new Testament as well. Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT) The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." (Luke 12:47-48 NLT) In case it was otherwise unclear. Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)
The stories in the bible are all I care about. The "Good Book" has been used to justify every evil that exists today. Like the Ten Commandments rule about "Thou shalt not kill," it is meant to be "Thou shalt not murder." But, the word murder probably did not exist in those days. We can kill in self-defense(or defense of others, war) or for kill animals for food. But to set out to kill someone is a sin. Human trafficking is slavery. A person can be sold over and over again while drugs or guns can only be sold only once. And it goes on to this very day.
That's a good point. Rush limbaugh is a serious "race pimp" He'll fall off the radar, then use his ace in the hole to get himself back on screen. and his fans apparently think he's the black community's spokesperson. I'll bet half his audience have this cartoonish picture in their heads of black people blaming them personally for slavery. I don't think any white person alive today is responsible for america's slavery, but mixecalifornian makes a great point about it. Slavery was " a horrible act justified by racism, and capitalism. Most products America exported in the early days where stuff from plantations labored by slaves. This nations economy literally flourished on the backs of laboring Slaves" That's key to the discussion. America was built on the back of slavery of black people (and genocide of the natives). slavery and "the racial equation" is part of the country's legacy, it's founding, and still informs the national character. That's what the "right" is trying to distract from with simplistic arguments about white people feeling guilty about slavery The argument that white people alive today are responsible for slavery has too many holes in it. Plus, what would it mean if they were? revenge slavery? However, the fact that america was built on slavery, and genocide, and stuff like "the middle passage" is rock solid. And what does that mean? Much better discusson Plus rush is the spokesperson for white people? I don't think white people feel all that guilty. (I refuse to listen to his video.) How does this guilt supposedly manifest? What are signs of this guilt? Gun rushes? Or is it liberals he's talking about? You guys are right about rush's "white rights" meaning "white privilege", same as what "freedom" meant to the south in the civil war. I think rush's core thesis is that white people shouldn't set aside their privilege over any feelings of right or wrong, and blacks deserved "their place" then as now But mostly he's just race baiting. I think more and more people are starting to see through people like him
