septa called for COMPLETE service shut down yesterday, based on the 'possible' event that the hurricane stays on path

sorry I just don't understand this...i figured they'd wait and see a little bit more, before shutting down the entire city again

I hear you. And the generally colder water over the northern Atlantic should sap some of the power out of Irene by landfall. I'm not saying it will be a lovely day in the park, but it seems like every part of the country is completely ill-equipped to deal with weather events common in different parts of the country. The northeast can deal with snow, but not much else. Heck, in FL, they fold up when the temp drops below 50.

Where I am in CO they assume that the snow will sail over the mountains and move east before dropping more than a couple of inches at a time, so the city goes into lockdown if there's more than that. They barely plow the highways. They just wait for it to warm up and the sun to melt it (It usually does). I've lived here for almost 6 years and I have *never* seen an actual plow. I'm from New England, where hurricanes are not unheard of and blizzards common. The plows are sitting with the engines running on the side of the road before the snow hits so they can stay ahead of it.

Stunned me to find out Colorado Springs hardly plows anything.

Weird. Denver has plows and uses them. :p

Nice to see you back Orejon. :D

We're closer to the mountains than Denver is, and you guys generally get more snow than we do. Our climate is a bit milder all around, except maybe for our almost daily thunderstorms in the summer. It's only about 60 miles away, but the mountains make a big difference.

The hurricane is close to my area. Currently we're getting heavy rain. The worst of it comes overnight. We may have a loss of power.

Right now the rain is pissing down on us. But the absolute worst would be a power outage. But I got flashlights and drinking water. Just wait this thing out and Monday will be beautiful.

Same here. Though I kind of feel while it's a category 1, the newcast hype is definitely a cat 5!!

We stayed behind actually. It was a major surprise and I can recall the events quite well.

I live just south of Boston and have power still, not too bad. But my friend who lives near the RI boarder said they lost power and parts of the city did as well. The MBTA or T shut down, but supposedly the storm is weakening. I want to watch the VMA and the Saints game, so i am hoping to have juice.
