The man once known as pound for pound the best fighter in the world has decided that being a citizen of Russia is best for him. Recently at a recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Crimea he asked if he could be made a citizen of the country, well the wish was granted.

Jones reasons for becoming a citizen of the country were cited as being a citizen makes it easier for him to do business in Russia. He plans on opening up boxing schools and launching a music career. His other reason was that he felt that in Russia he was more appreciated.

“After my arrival in Russia, I saw that there is a large community of boxers. I also felt appreciated in Russia. Maybe even a lot more that I was valued and appreciated in my own country.”

    Really?

Maybe he felt like Pretty Boy Floyd stole his shine. Roy Jones was a beast with his lightning reflexes and fancy pants dancing, but he's always had a cavalier cockiness so I think some scoffed at his arrogance. He's also retired and while I doubt he's lost his edge, in sure he has lost his speed.

Well, best wishes Sir. Hopefully your mission to mentor and train other young boxers in another country is fulfilled and makes you happy...

Not so sure about the music career. Lol we'll see about that one...

    Anyone remember when Shaq rapped?

    I wish Roy would retire.

His Russian gf has him interested in her culture...maybe she can convince him to retire.

Yes I saw that and why that brother wants to be a citizen of Russia? C33,I remember when Shaq rapped. He did pretty good but, knew he did not quit his day job. Living in a country where some Russian men treat brothers like dirt especially when they play soccer. Also,a Russian woman could do strange things. No doubt he has more than one Russian woman on the side.

What's the racial climate in Russia?
Maybe he got tired of feeling like a second class citizen in his own home

    I didn't realize...

I haven't seen him fight for years! I looked it up online and it looks like his last fight was in 2013

The median income in Russia is lower than India's.:smt096
Yet Putin is reportedly worth $40 billion, money he 'earned' as president of Russia:rolleyes:, and is the worst kleptocrat in modern European history.

Russia is basically a police state. No thank you on moving there and relinquishing my citizenship.

The man has been punched one too many times in the dome.

Why would anyone choose that even if you're rich. Is it worth it?

In the 20's and 30's, many Americans lived in Russia before it became a communist state. They went to Russia to get work. I think it came about after the crash of 1929.

G,Russia became a Communist state after Lenin's troops defeated the White Russian Army back in 1918 winning the Civil War there.

I've been to Moscow, people out there were pretty xenophobic. There are some videos on YT about black people living in russia. Most of them don't have too many good experiences.

Roy Jones Jr. is still a multimillionaire so I assume he can be selective in his interaction with local Russians and only deal with those who are cool with him.

But still, I can't see myself ever making that move. Even if I spoke the language.

Our political system is corrupt, but Russia is a mob style government and economy, with the chief gangster in the role of President.

When your President is one of the richest men in the word and NEVER worked in the private sector or ran a company, your country is beyond messed up.

When corporations have HUMAN RIGHTS like here in America....your "country" is past beyond fucked up.

Go to russia illegally and see if you can buy a house..like you can in this mess of a nation.
