She was 48. I always loved her very emotional song, "Congratulations"...

She was found with several empty prescription bottles in a hotel room. Not sure if it was accidental or suicide. Interestingly her music style was very Phyllis Hyman-like, who also died the same way.

That is sad news, indeed. I always felt that Vesta's star should have shined brighter. Her voice was amazing. She was also very charismatic. She could have been great in movies & TV. I still have her appearance in the movie, Posse.

    Kunoichi,

It is strange you mentioned Phyllis. Her story is almost the same. A very talented, very charismatic singer, who could have been an actress, should have been a mega star, but somehow never achieving the acclaim they deserved. Pyhllis could have been a model with her striking beauty. Actually, I think she was. But depression was her enemy.

I guess we will find out about Vest'a final days before too long.

Very sad. She had a 4 octave range.

On the matter of Phyllis and her depression, I worked with one of her back-up singers and present with her the day the call came in. (she was devastated). Behind the scenes, the reason I was told that compounded her decision to end her life was the break-up of a relationship. She didn't want to be alone. It's so sad that depression often wont let a sufferer see the light...

I read it in the New York Times today. She would be sorely missed.
