What I want to know is - Why is it that when I basically said the same thing NO ONE responded???

This is the basic message I was putting forth, though not as detailed as BMJ's. It just shows the kind of issues many blacks from all walks of life have. They don't CARE enough to stand up and do anything about it!

To quote Obama, "change". It needs to occur within the hearts and minds of many of our youth in particular. They are going to have to WANT to change before anything gets better! Unfortunately, they think that there is no incentive for them to do so...

Dont worry, drow...if you said something as dumb as what BMJ had said I would have responded.

At the time he was with the Marines. He was in Australia for some type of joint military exercise. I guess Townsville was the nearest area to where he was stationed. He never mentioned any other part of Australia. I don't think he saw much else.

We have some bright brothas in this thread... Maybe its time we start a group to go around to the Jr Highs and High Schools and show them that you can been a regular person, not a wanna-be rapper, wanna-be gang banger, wanna-be thug.

That being smart is a badge of honor, not something to be looked down on.

Don't let people hold you back.

However the problem with throwing money at the problem is assuming that the root of the problem is the lack of money.

Its not, its giving proper sex education in school

That prevents accidental pregnancies for one thing. Meaning if it happens it was intentional.

    Better trained Guidance Councilors

It all has to start back at school, thats where opinions and thoughts in social society are molded.

It will also take a complete re-shaping of our culture, especially the class war, because the class war starts as soon as you start to money and Western Women feel they can't date you because you work at Mickey D's and don't roll a Tahoe on 24s.

As I said nothing is every as simple as pointing fingers, there are many facets to what's wrong and what causes Racism to start with...

Hehe - yeah, I'll be around.
I will be in US culture for six months. I'll no doubt have a lot of observations and thoughts going through my head. I'm taking a laptop so I can keep in contact with the family.

I have been planning my mid-career break since I finished school! :) yee-hah. It's taken me 15 months, but I have enough saved now.

Melb - I LOVE melb...if I didn't live here, i would totally move to melb

Are you with a bm at the moment? Or just in the appreciation fan club? :D

(AJ = Army Jerk - a general term for anyone in the Army, as far as I'm aware, well, maybe not the officers - just the plebs :D)

BINGO! That's what I thought. You wouldn't go to Townsville otherwise! :) hehe! :)

6 months! Brilliant! Do you know anyone in the US? Are you going solo or is your man going with you?

Yeah - melbourne is fantastic - just wish we had Brissys weather!
And i’m single – my BF died 8mths ago – so keeping the heart tucked inside for the moment. As for BM - not exclusive to any type and it takes me awhile to warm up to someone - although i do have an 'appreciation' for Africans – make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Ah-ha! Thanks – so many acronyms and US lingo on this site going straight over my head…

Anything positive is a good thing! There are certain organizations that are already attempting to reach out to not only just "inner city kids" but ALL youth that need help and guidance and they seem to be having great success!

I myself have only just become recently interested/involved because I see the never-ending dilemma that we will ALWAYS be in unless we start changing our ways of thinking. No doubt, institutionalized racism plays a large part in things but it's nothing a little determination regardless of the odds can't conquer. Others have done it, why can't we!? It is extremely hard to break bad habits but that's exactly what has to happen if any progress is to be made. I don't know about you guys but I am SICK of the world viewing black people as worthless, criminal thugs! It's about time to make them swallow that image because we are just as capable as anyone!

I agree and the tide is turning.. Boy its going to be a LONG process because those in control would rather have the populist dysfunctional that way we can't unite and PUSH BACK. But we are ALREADY PUSHING BACK and the last 28% or so that are left we can't wait on them anymore, they'll either GET IT or WON'T and they'll be left behind.

Dennis Kucinich went to bat for us and is trying to push for Impeachment of Bush. Everytime I e-sign the petition for Impeachment (last time Cheney) I get a nice email from Diane Feinstein's office saying "Impeachement is off the table because it would divide the country"

Holy Shit Fienstein have you looked out the window the country is DIVIDED! - 70-30

I find it hard to believe that Impeaching Bush would be disruptive when trying to Impeach Clinton was everything including disruptive and didn't mean Shit in the long run. This action would unseat the Cartoon Dictator, his minions and put Pelosi in charge, but only if she backs this because she's on th HOT SEAT for not backing this IMHO and Cindy Sheehan will be sitting in her seat and everybody in Congress does NOT want that....

Kucinich said that if these 35 counts of impeachment are allowed to die on the floor, he will be back in July with 60 counts.

Honestly, it wasn't overnight to put Nixon on the Hot Seat, it took some time and instead of facing Impeachment he resigned.

Now that's telling that if this happens, 3 out of the last 7 Presidents where Impeached, of course Nixon and Bush for more serious of offenses.

Democracy is under fire, get informed people, then INFORM the people!

Racism is racism, the term "reverse racism" is stupid as all get out. Wouldnt reverse racism, mean no racism (because reverse does mean opposite)?

Yeah, I definitely can't relate obviously with what black people went through, but at the same time, you can't just say that every response that is racist is not racist because they are responding to racism. Otherwise, they'll always be allowed to say that since racism will never disappear completely, just like sexism and homophobia and stuff. So by saying that black people can say racist stuff since they live in a racist society is kinda like saying that black people will never move on (not forget about the past, but just have more closure).

well, some people believe that racism can only be effectively applied by the majority, in this case, white people...

so, that's where you get this whole idea of it being reversed, or thrown back to them.

this shit is so simple, someone probably already posted it, and you probably posted what you did in response....but i dont read all this shit

Yes, there is a such thing as 'reverse racism'. Racism is discrimination on the basis of race. Black people might not have the political power to implement systematic racism against Whites as a group but we are capable of racism in our everyday interactions with Whites and other non-Black people. Not so long ago, I heard a story of a group of Black men who beat a White man almost to death for dating a Black woman. The idea that we're incapable of racism is laughable. Being unkind is wrong, no matter who or what the recipient of your mistreatment is.
