Senator Jim DeMint recently stepped down as Senator of South Carolina so he could serve as President of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank. Because of this, Gov. Nikki Haley has appointed Rep. Tim Scott to replace DeMint as US Senator. Scott, whom propelled onto the scene two years ago after winning the Congressional seat in his district, has brandish himself as a TEA Party activist and a favorite among conservatives. Having survived reelection and won his seat by a large margin, he's considered to be a rising star in the GOP and perhaps may seek Presidency in 2020.

He will be the first African American Republican since Reconstruction to serve in the US Senate. Having doing so, he'll continue the tradition of conservative activism and perhaps maybe considering a run for higher office in the future. Whether you agree with his policies or not, he's definitely someone to look out for in the near future.

Yeah, been hearing about Nikki Haley going to give the post to him since last week. Currently he will be the only blk in US senator. I am not so sure about him being a rising star though.......

Nothing interesting about his positions, as they are pretty much part of the far-right orthodoxy. But it shouldn't come to anyone's surprise either, as he's a TEA Party favorite.

Regarding his stance on immigration, taking an officiate to make English the official language seems a bit weird to me. It's not necessary to make a language official, especially since it's already understood that we're a nation where pretty much the entire nation knows English.

If he was a middle of the road person, he would have given some form of amnesty to illegal immigrants, as long as they follow certain conditions, such as serving the military. But he never specified any of this in his speeches nor on his website.

As for the veterans position, it's not a far-right position, so I'll concede to that.

However, it is true that conservative orthodoxy has been lost in the modern GOP. And right now, we have people who are economically quasi-libertarian "conservatism." And it all has to do with selective reasoning.

It is some sort of joke of him being elected senator of South Carolina. No Black male in the South can be elected independently for a higher office like governor or senator. Him being elected by the tea baggers? He will not last long in the Senate. Lynn Swann? Don't make me laugh. The middle part of Pensylvania is conservative and they will not elect him along with Pittsburgh and Philly. White conservatives want a brother who acts like a clown while Liberals want more qualified Black men to be elected Senator or Governor.

Tim Scott is a congressman who's being appointed by the governor to take over the Senate seat vacated by Jim DeMint.

We'll see if he can win reelection.

Andreboba did you remember when Sen DeMint defeated a brother who somehow got in the ballot. Boy, he was really unqualified since he got in trouble with the law and he could not speak good.

Yeah this really random brotha somehow won the Democratic primary in SC for the U.S. Senate. He was broke but somehow(?) came up with the $10K he needed to submit his name as a candidate.

There were def shenanigans going on that election but IMO the media never followed up.

I wonder whatever happened to him? No doubt in jail. Oh yes, guess who is running for his old seat in the House? Mark Sanford former governor who left his wife and later married a Argentine woman. Would he pulled this off? It is like John Edwards running for congressman in a democratic seat in North Carolina.

Regarding Greene's whereabouts? Well, taken straight from Wikipedia shows this...

A warrant for Alvin Greene's arrest was issued on November 9, 2009 and he was subsequently arrested.

And as for Sanford...it's highly likely he'll get back on the scene and the public would simply play hypocrite and ignore the whole affair.

I believe so it is the same state that voted for Newt Gingrich in the SC primaries.
