Civil Rights Act was signed in 1964, Robert Byrd repented his racists ways, George Wallace was an old school Dixiecrat along with Strom Thurmond who eventually like all Southern Democrats converted to the Republican Party. He was a lifelong Democrat and ran for office as a Democrat except in his first run for the White House, when he was the candidate of the American Independent Party.
Each subsequent run, was as a Democrat.
