Whose parents/grandparents here (or maybe you personally) have an Advance Directive? My father had one done in '94, but I recently filled out one for him (asking my mother for the answers) and it conflicts the original one. My mother doesn't have one. My aunt who died recently, had one, and that made things so much easier for the family, cause we knew her wishes. My father hates the first ones' wording, so we have to revamp the whole thing.

I believe it is the most responsible things to do for loved ones, when someone passes it is nice not to have to think about details when grieving all adults should have one!

I have some experience with that, IB...in this part of the country, it's called "pre-need", but the intent is the same. My dad had one, when he passed 5 years ago,l and my mother, who used to sell the things, has one. You are correct, everything is spelled out down to the last detail, and it was a tremendous relief to not only have these things taken care of, but also paid for. It's much like burial insurance. Contrast that with my grandma, who passed about 4 months after my dad, and she had nothing. People were running around trying to find decades old insurance policies, while the funeral lady was running a tape on her 10-key (adding machine)...we literally had to pass the hat before we were even allowed to see her remains. That happens a lot to people who can't afford to bury their loved one, and have no insurance.
I could snap on the whole funeral industry, but that's another rant for another time.

 

Most people on this board are rather easy to offend and I suppose the same truth holds in real life. Add some layers to your skin folks.

I'm sorry to hear about your loved ones passings. I can't even fathom what your family had to go through with your grandmother, and the chaos that ensued. That's why we want to make sure that we get this done - asap! Luckily, my father has one, but unluckily, like I said, he hates the wording.

I found out that the one that we filled out recently, isn't going to act as anything. The AD has to be official, and will be the one they go to. Now it's a matter of rewriting my father's and making one for my mother. I know it's a pain now, but it does come in handy as we all know.

No, my middle name is hella lame. I wouldn't mind it coming from a soap if the name didn't suck. I'm guessing the character was a pussy.

 

I'm guessing it isn't special anymore. She stopped watching that shit when I was like 5.

 

Today was a hard day for me. I found out that I'm disabled & the Psychiatrist thinks I may never work. That puts me to tears. Because for the past 9 years, I've been wanting to go home (california). But I guess that should push me more. Starting next week, I'll be doing something that I should have done when I was 5 yrs. old, Read a lot of books. and exercise. Sometimes I need a good kick in the butt.

 

Sorry to hear that. I'm in the same boat. It sucks because I am only in my early 20's. I have been diagnosed with PTSD. I hope one day I am in a more stable position. I'm still studying though. I hope you're okay. I think it's great you're setting yourself goals! Don't let your disability own you but at the same time don't force yourself to do too much. Thinking of ya.
