Appeal to what/who audiences exactly? If it isn't YOUR true body shape, YOU have no actual appeal to whatever audience you're tricking.

Cropping is not conning - unless you really don't have a head.

In some cases it's not that big a deal IMO. The best example of it not being an issue is with the pics of men and women posted on this site for enjoyment purposes. Who cares if some random pic has been photoshopped when it's all about the fantasy anyway? Why take away from people's enjoyment of the fantasy? The pics are meant to be enjoyed, not analyzed.

Most people are aware that those types of pics online and in magazines are typically unrealistic, but that doesn't prevent them from getting pleasure from those images. Whether it's makeup, lighting, touch-ups, push up bra, set, props, whatever...most people don't care as long as they like what they're looking at. Most people don't take the "deception" personally because they know it's not personal.

The only time it's really an issue IMO is when people do try to pass off their altered personal pics as real, or when fashion magazines distort images to the point where it does harm to the girls and women seeing them who think they are real and feel they have to live up to those impossible standards.

when trolling the internet for friends/people to get close to, it becomes personal when what you see isn't what you get:smt018

but if you don't have any real, offline intentions with anyone, then yeah i guess it don't matter

No big deal in a small amount of cases perhaps however it IS doing harm collectively.

Example; the online explosion of fake ass pics. Suddenly women have grown (digitized) badonks. You know what that parlays into? Women desperately trying to emulate a FARCE. Read stories of women dying because pesuedo docs inject industrial silicone in their asses. It's not a joke.

The falsifying of women's bodies is a billion $ cottage industry and expressing a non nonchalant condoning of it is damaging to women and our daughters. It''s one thing when a photo has been artistically manipulated to HIGHLIGHT it -- which is where your example of makeup, lighting, touch-ups, bras, props, etc, comes into play, but guess what? - WE SEE IT.

With photoshop there is no 'seeing it"

Same thing with men's abs and muscles and dicks. I really don't want to admire multiples men's assets in the L/LR if it's P/S augmented. Yuck. If his ass isn't juicyphat or dick actually a 10 inch snake, save it.
I want to see actual real-sized dicks.

As for magazines, I don't even look at what they're selling to me as authentic anymore. And I doubt men want to spend $8 to buy a Big Butt Women magazine and all the see are manipulated digitized asses. Men like women to posses natural asses and breasts and lips and hair, I would assume from what men tell me.

This is why I mentioned to you before why I applaud men like BB and C4$U WHO KEEP IT REAL with their pics and are doing men and women a HUGE favor because they are highlighting that THIS is what women look like and it's still sexy, flaws and all.

We have become so desensitized to it and if you feel it barely affects, look how violence in the media has desensitized people. Look at Jordan's Photoshop thread and see how they shave inches of already slim thighs. It's gotten ridiculous, imo.

I am still at the idea of butt implants and women dying to get them, because part of my life (indeed the majority of my life) has been made into a comedy. Those white boys making fun of me. Black boys staying away from me because I was too white (I guess, who knows). I was friends with black chicks because I was super openminded and innocent and I genuinely liked black girls - they liked my hair too, and played with it, which I liked (when I was about 7)...I liked their hair too and wanted to put lots of barrettes and gold rings in my hair like theirs and have beautiful bronzed skin as well. I incurred a whole lot of hurt because of my ass I used to walk around with my back to the WALL (talk about looking awkward - someone sidling down a walkway with her back to the wall), when I was 12 years old because I didn't want anyone to look at my fat booty and make fun of it. THEN (many years later) I saw Jennifer Lopez in Anaconda in her white shorts and had a breakthrough. I though "there's a girl like me... It was mind blowing - and after then it didn't stop - booty worship was the new thing. I became popular. It was nice/annoying. All because of the popular mentality. Just waiting for some man who will see me - my exterior and my interior - and like BOTH.

That's what I was referring to in the last paragraph. The second paragraph had nothing to do with personal pics; it was about the fantasy pics which have nothing to do with folks you'd connect with on a personal level.

Like I said in the last paragraph, if someone you're trying to know on a personal level is trying to deceive you with an altered personal pic, of course that makes it personal.

I do get where you're coming from, but it doesn't sound like you get my point at all. There is no "nonchalant condoning" of the negative effects the media has on women who don't know that the images they see aren't real. I also don't condone lying to someone by altering one's personal pics and presenting them as real.

I agree that the whole thing has gotten out of hand. It is scary how many people don't know the difference between reality and fantasy, and it's also scary the extent some will go to trying to achieve the impossible, unrealistic standards the media promotes. Unfortunately much of the media and industries that benefit from it (plastic surgeons for example) will never change their tactics in that respect.

I watched an old Tyra Banks interview a few days ago about Vogue's decision to refuse working with unhealthy models, and she had a good point about how important it is to teach our daughters the difference between what's real and what isn't. She also mentors many young models and encourages them to do what's healthiest and best for them. She even talked about her own career change from high fashion modeling to commercial modeling (Victoria Secret), when her body started changing into a woman's body which had many in the industry calling her fat. I'll try to find the link again and post it.

I don't remember the convo about BB & CC4U and their pics, but I agree that it's awesome that there are men who appreciate real women in all their natural glory. It seems like women tend to worry more about flaws (real and imagined) that most men either don't notice or don't see them as flaws at all.

Although there are men who love real women, there are also those who love the fantasy versions as well. My point is with all the threads in the Ladies Room and the Mens Locker Room where folks like to chime in about all the pics being photoshopped, most of the people enjoying those pics don't care. They are enjoying the fantasy aspect, which is what those pics represent.

The world of modeling needs a reality check

Some of the women are just toooo skinny

Yes they are, and a lot of those girls are killing themselves to be that skinny.

Funny how it doesn't impact men the same way? I think its a big excuse. If you have a strong sense of self there is no reason to lie and others being good looking or having certain desirable attributes won't take away from your own personal self confidence. Trying to live up to someone elses standard of beauty is a failing on your part not that of advertisers or people who front online.

I can make a baby just like that. All I need is a wig and my own loaves to be pitched onto newspaper instead of the toilet.
