Just a thought. I'm a realistic and mature person. i can accept the fact that there is racism in every part of the world just as there is prejudice of all kinds in the world. Being that i'm American, i'm exposed to prejudice and racism all of the time. And even within the black race in the US we are prejudiced toward one another in lots of different ways. we can sometimes act like crabs in a barell alot of different films in the USA i think show this stigma very well. and how and why it happens. as i very immature 10 year old boy, i went thru a breif phase where i too was racist myself. it had alot to do with the environment and my peers/friends at the time. So when i hear things like "brothers get respect overseas" "we get treated differently over there" it makes me feel better and makes me hold my head up. One day i will relocate to Europe. i see this love & respect in international movies sometimes. Many of the international ladies here say things that confirm what i hear and see in movies as well. but at the same time when i read headlines and see youtube clips and news flashes like this, it scares me alittle. i say to myself "damn it happens over there too" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwpO-nnFY9g&feature=related the way Lewis Hamilton was treated in Spain doesn't help either. i was unaware that white racists existed in spain. some people say that australia is racist and other say it isn't. and i guess my question is what parts of europe and other parts of the world do black men experience racism at this level. where does it happen, which countries should we avoid? and Why? I've always believed that the problem with Racism in the US comes from the fact that slavery happened here and everything that occurred after it is what makes us who we are today in the USA. I personally grew in an environment where i was indirectly taught to hate myself and i dislike the fact that this was my emotional foundation as a kid. So i keep thinking, "oh i will get away from over there in Europe" but it clearly happens over there too. so someone please who is an experienced traveler or lives abroad please educate me!
There is racism everywhere but from what I can tell it's not on the same caliber, over here in the UK anyway. You'll encounter racism the world round but here it seems to be a few ignorant people rather than a system designed to bring people down based on the colour of their skin. I honestly don't think racism seems to be a massive problem where I live in regards to black people (a big city in Scotland), it's very integrated here but you may get the odd idiot.
I'm going to find out in two months. The wife and I will visit Germany. We have several military friends who are stationed at Ramstein Air Base and Spangdahlem Air Base. Both in Germany. I will see for myself if there is racism in Europe. While in Germany we plan to go to Munich and the Black Forest Region. Having friends in the military pays. If this trips go without any tinge of racism I look forward to do the same in the far future by going to England.
Okay. that helps to hear this. thanks ladies! its just about directing yourself too. i also believe that a person has to do things to attract the right type of people in to his/her own life and then geographically place himself/herself in the right environment. one of my goals is to become a philanthopist and get into serious charity work as a hobby. I will also study other languages as well. i really believe that if i can do this and go to the right countries, i'll find some happiness for once in my life. alot of times i complain about the way people act towards me (men, women & children). but i now realize and see that if you GIVE in the right way, you will GET. If you put the love out there and give it to the right people/persons you will get it back and as for Blacktiger, don't go looking or racism. Enjoy the sights. A person can be a closet racist and you wouldn't know it at all. Its all about attracting the right type of people into your life and then getting to know what they are about as people! but yeah let us know how the trip goes. you are right about military family helps. A relative of mine used to live in Germany with his wife and daughter and we were able to have a good time and save $$$$ too. so i understand. my father, brother and myself back in 1992 went to Germany and stayed with relatives.
hi Bhayes how are you? hope ok. I only can talk about my experience in europe... i have been in this countries: Switzerland, italy, netherlands, belgium, france and germany. i dont have never experienced any type of racism in europe! maybe because im a very good looking guy :smt043 :smt043 :smt043
Neither have I come to think of it. I have always been welcomed in any country I have visited or lived. Germany (the best where I lived 4 years), Austria, England, Italy (nice beaches), Ireland, Canada, and France. My worst experience have been in the USA as far as welcome is concerned....LOL
Generally speaking as a Black man, the countries which had colonies in Africa are the most tolerant towards Black people. I live in the UK, but have been to both France and Belgium. All three counties had colonies in Africa, and are tolerant towards black people. Obviously if you cant speak the local lingo, you might face a tiny bit of hostility..but for the most part you should be okay in these three countries. As for Eastern Europe, I would be a bit more wary, a lot of skinheads roaming around..Southern Europe isnt too tolerant towards Black people, but I think this is mainly towards Africans, more than Americans. There are a lot of poor Africans in these countries. If you are after white girls, which I expect you are...British girls tend to be very tolerant.
educated and respectful people are welcome in parts of the world ( maybe not in north korea :butthead for me this problems are more related to immigration and job issues in europe.
With the exception of a couple (who are in relationships with white guys) all my white girlfriends are open to dating black guys and a fair few of them prefer black guys.
