I've noticed that when a White person seeks an Interracial relationship, whether it's a White woman or a White man, they seem to prefer very dark complexioned partners. I know this to be true for me, (White who prefers Black men) and my best friend, (Black who prefers White men). My son, white obviously, has a girlfriend from Ghana who is extremely dark and even has tribal scarification on her face.
I've wondered if anyone else has found this to be the case, and if so, why?

Maybe the whole survival of the fittest thing is at play here.
People seek out one of two things:
I'm going to make the species stronger by passing on my genes so I'll pick the weaker.
I need to make my line stronger so I need to mate with the stronger.

Sometimes it's physical or intelligence or social standing or it could be a myriad of things.
But skin complexion and why people – some people are attracted to what's not like them, I feel has more to do with some primal needs deep in our subconscious.

while the more the contrast in skin color (thus the more erotic visually sex can be), it isn't enough for me to have a preference over how dark a BM is that I date.

    The Attraction/Skin Tone

:) Agreed, I have seen interracial coupling run the gamut. It is a very erotic and stunning visual to see fair/dark in a sexual situation, but on the flip side, isn't it fair to think that a white woman may prefer a lighter skinned black male because then that way they feel like they are still able to say they are with a black male, without them being too "black"?
Does any one know what I mean? Agree disagree(gently) other opinions?

I kinda agree and disagree. In the media, it certainly isn't portrayed that way (and that is if it ever is). For the best part, black males with white females are often consisting of a light skinned brotha.

But in reality, it seems like white women generally believe the maxim "The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice". And the same applies to brothas too. If you see a dark man who likes white women, there is a possibility he prefers blonde white women.

It's basic physical attraction. Generally, i prefer fair skinned women of all races and that's how it is.

It all comes down to exoticism but most would deny it with the politically correct "It doesn't really come to color" answer.

For me personally I wouldn't agree with the statement. I find light skin and dark skin BM attractive.

I don't care either, as long as he is darker than me. Certain facial characteristics are more important to me than skin color, for instance, I'm not very attracted to men from South Asian countries, eventhough they can be just as dark or even darker than Africans or African Americans. I do have a clear preference for dark eyes though, I prefer dark brown over green or blue.

I totally agree. Is the overall combination of facial characteristics with skin colour that makes sb attractive.

In general I think the darker the more exotic :)

Re: Question?.White folk preference for dark, dark Black par

i've noticed this as well...most whites that i see with black people tend to get the very dark ones. i had one white guy tell me he thought i wasnt dark enough and that i needed to get a tan....he told me he thought my skin was shit colored. i dont even want to say what i told him after that because it was very offensive. he's one of those smart asses who always has to dish some kind of insult out for whatever reason. i don't even talk to him anymore because i try to keep negative people out my life.

I have observed polor opposites in skin color go after each other more often, in general. This is just not limited in the U.S., but other societies where there is a great range of skin color in the countries. Reasons vary.

    Peace.

jeverage, would you say this is true for latin america as well? i think those countries have the greatest skin range but from what i hear they're still stuck on the white beauty standards (the men and the women are) and not really looking at the opposites thing. the same goes for india where theres a huge skin range but nobody wants the dark people.

I know what you are talking about. Yes, colorism is worst, in my opinion, in those countries. However, you will still find where polor opposites do go for one another. Again, there are many reasons as to why.

    Peace.

I'm not really bothered, fairly light, mid brown, mixed race, very dark (the darkest was a Sierra Leonean - is that spelt right? - who was about the same colour as Akon in a pic on this forum)...it's more than the colour itself anyway, I really like the differing physical features on black men such as full lips, the contrast making teeth look really white, nose shapes, and smooth, smooth skin like velvet!

My ex-lover was fairly dark skinned, my current boyfriend is also black, but lighter skinned. What attracked me to my boyfriend is his awesome sense of humor, his loving personality and his looks. The whole package. I care about him for him.

The man I'm seeing is quite fair and has interesting slightly middle Eastern features, even (very large cat like eyes, a little bit like a man I once dated from Saudi Arabia). He's from St Lucia. I was attracted to him by his large lips and a slightly crooked smile, a slightly crooked smile with dimples makes me go a bit silly! And also because he's 6ft 6 so quite hard to miss.

Hi! Since I've started dating black men, I have to say that I definitely prefer the extremely dark-skinned bm. I'm strongly attracted to black men in general, but I find the darkest bm to be sooooooooo damn hot & sexy!!! esp black African or Caribbean.

    The Attraction.

:D Well I am sure I am not the only black male to express this, but I'm mutually attracted to Mediterranean women. :D

    Re: The Attraction.

Same here. Even though i like fair (read: blonde) women, there just is something that melts me down about brown skinned, dark haired women.
