http://hiphopwired.com/2010/03/02/white-professor-fired-for-calling-himself-the-n-word/ was this cat out-of-pocket, for using this type of metaphorical language? I'm all for intellectual discourse, but I think I would feel a certain way, if he was talkin' yang like this in the middle of class.
Excuse me, for some reason I found this too funny, he called himseld an N, and he went out like one
"Hey, my stepfather is black, it's fair game......right?" :smt011 *Waits for Nas to ask "wouldn't you like to be a nigger, too."* Dude had no business sayin' that shit. You don't need to say the actual word to get the point across.
well he could have used another word definitely...would have probably been better off just saying 'slave on the corporate plantation' instead. If he had any black students in his class, I bet they were shaking their heads on some real shit. I wonder who narc'd on Professor Klux anyway.....
Amn. He shouldn't lose his job though. We are way too quick to fire people over dumb stuff in this country but we allow mediocrity to run rampant. Everything should be judged with in context and this is seriously an over reaction by the school.
Oh ok didn't know what you were referencing. I think that we're getting too pc. We're beginning to ban words and personally I would rather every white person in this country call me nigger daily than give up free speech.
Damn Andrae, now that's a commitment to free speech. I'm a huge proponent of free speech, but I don't think anyone has a right to call you, or anyone else, that word.
Uh...if that's what *YOU* want, then, okay... Operative word here being...you, m8.. AGREED! Not even in 'solidarity' or 'jest'.. And ESPECIALLY not going 'the other way', either.. That's what words like 'dickhead' and 'asshole' are for, IMHO. OpinionsCartoonStudios@Yahoo.Co.UK
:smt043 :smt043 :smt043 Though seriously I applaud Andrae for having that level of commitment to free speech. I don't think a lot of people would take it that far.
Maybe so, maybe no. But it's a BIG, WIDE WORLD out there.... And there's ALL KINDS that make that world. And even if it's just a thousand, or a hundred, or just ten...or even only one.... ..I know they're OUT THERE. OpinionsCartoonStudios@Yahoo.Co.UK
Give me liberty or give me death those words actually mean something to me. It's better to die on my feet then live on my knees. When I said I'd rather people call me nigger than have to live a life where I am censored at all times I meant I'd rather they have the freedom to do so. Imagine a world where thought and emotions are regulated where you aren't even allowed to say what comes to mind. Trust me petty insults can be ignored but not complete annihilation of our freedoms.
Oh I agree with you Andrae. But rather obviously there is nothing anyone could say to me that would carry the same weight as that word would to a black person, so your stance is surprising, admirable certainly, but still surprising.
I was really affected by this Jordanian student who went to school with me in Undergrad. In Jordan apparently the government has such control over the people that you can be jailed for speaking ill of the government or anyone in power. It doesn't even stop there because if you are an immediate relative of the accused you are essentially black listed not being able to find employment or a place to live. We take our freedoms for grantite here. Things that we've always been able to do can easily been taken away from us if we don't remain vigilant about topics like this. I know it's easy to dismiss what I say for most especially if you've never come in contact with people who live differently than us but boy do we have it good over here. I can write this and not worry about government agents abducting me in the middle of the night like they do in China. If you have a chance watch V for Vendetta its a great dipiction of what could happen if we're not careful. "We have for more to fear from a government than we ever will the devil" - Thomas Jefferson
