I have a feeling that there's some sort of scandal behind Ratzinger's (pope benedict) resignation. Someone know something big, and it was probably "step down or this gets out". The truth will probably revealed after ratzinger dies. And no, there's not going to be a black pope successor. The church knows that doing that will lose them more members than they're already losing. A church riddled with pedophiles didn't shake the faith of the devout, but you bet your ass electing a black pope would.
I would LOVE to believe that would not be the case, but I must say you are probably right, and that sickens me.
The Poop will soon resign. Surprised the hell out of me. But in any case, the Catholic population in the US has dropped significantly, and elsewhere, so if they really wanted to play it smart, they would get a Catholic from one of the Latin American areas since there's a heavy, strong Catholic presence in those areas. A black pope is unlikely anyway. Not a strong black Catholic community.
If anyone wants to have a read, there is online rumour galore that the Pope has allegedly asked for the Italian Prime Minister for immunity from prosecution. Its not being covered by mainstream media at the moment but several alternative media sites like this one are running the story. http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/343606
Probably true, but there have already been three Black Popes, Victor, Miltiades, and Gelasius, http://www.nbccongress.org/black-catholics/african-popes.asp, of course all three were VERY early on in the Catholic Church.
A 2010 new york times article about ratzinger's part in protecting an american priest who molested more than 200 deaf boys. There's probably a lot more dirt on this guy out there. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/25/world/europe/25vatican.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
Absolutely sickening. Just plain despicable. The hell is wrong with people! "Dignity of his preisthood"?? Rot in hell, Murphy.
As a former Catholic I am disgusted, I left the Church do to an asshole priest who condemned me for divorcing. Hardly think Jesus would do that. Even as a child I thought of priests as servants of God, not as authority figures or God.
Frankly, I haven't paid a huge amount of attention to this Pope. But it had me wondering why he was resigning. There are, of course, a myriad of possible reasons/speculations why he's the first Pope to resign since 1415. My first thought was that maybe he had a horrible disease like Alzheimer's. The fact that he stated he doesn't have the physical or mental stamina to do his job anymore made me wonder if he's suffering from some form of dementia. Then I read a story about how he's staying in a convent in the Vatican and people are speculating he's doing that to avoid prosecution. Though the other reasons brought up (can't afford security detail, being one) seem legitimate, too. I don't know. But I think they need another Pope John Paul II. Someone who is active and travels around the world and someone who has more current viewpoints, as the Catholic Church needs to adapt or they will continue to die off. I think they made a mistake voting Pope Benedict into office, as he hasn't been an effective leader at all, which is a shame, since he was the first Pope from Germany in like 1,000 years, which is cool. The next Pope NEEDS to fix the pedophile issue, though, and fix it FAST. If he doesn't, the Catholic Church is as good as dead.
Do any of you recall Father Alberto Cutie(coo-tee-ay)who resigned because he had a fling on the beach with a beautiful woman and it was photographed? The incident divided Miami. One side said he betrayed the church and the other said that he was being a man. Frankly, I'd rather see pictures of his hands on the butt of a beautiful woman than the crotch of a little boy. Cutie resigned and married the woman. He is ministering in another church. He stated that the Catholic Church needs to be modified and allow priests to marry.
And so did the most senior cardinal in the UK http://www.newser.com/story/163359/top-cardinal-next-pope-should-let-priests-get-married.html
Being from a race obsessive country. I wonder if the successor will be an African or someone from Latin America to be the first non-european, non-Italian pope.
I doubt he is going to be an African given how racist the Italians can be. Look at Mario Balotelli and the way he is treated by the country he loves. They can't even tolerate a black star soccer player who would walk through broken glass for Italy. Europeans like to talk about how enlightened about race they are compared to Americans but that is bowsheet.
