In the US we still talk about it because it has festered. Our puritanical roots dictated that it was better to sin than to be thought to sin by others. Meaning, we do our dirt in the dark and pretend no one knows. Hidden things fester. I feel if we had been more intellectually honest we could move on also. I read a really good book about how messed up we are because of our early Puritan roots, but cant recall the title. I might try to find it on my shelf and reread it.
I think these Puritan rooots are still sometimes strong in the USA. Maybe in Europe we have moved forward, and have embraced other cultures.
