No question those people get a generous amount from the Apartheid government back in the day. They must be the ones who are too poor to leave South Africa. The Great Trek is not coming anytime soon.

 

And South Africa is becoming a shithole where 1 in 3 women have been raped.

South Africa is quickly becoming just another African country because of the brain drain it's facing with all the Afrikaaners leaving.

 

I don´t think that the brain drain will effect Soutafrica that much.
Soutafrica is still atracting people from other countries to move there.

And I state facts. South Africa is in the hole right now because the Afrikaaners have left. Prove me wrong.

 

South Africa is in the hole? Well, that depends on what your definition of being in a "hole" is. You know, many foreign economists and specialists say that America is in the hole too. Have you taken a look at America's deficit and it' debt? How much money does the US owe China and Japan? What's the unemployment rate in the US and what's the % of the US population that lives in poverty? The US has one of the worst standard of living and highest poverty % for any country in the developing world.

Meanwhile, South Africa is organizing the next World Cup of Football in 2010, and construction is booming! They already had state of the art infrastructe before, but now the public infrastructure is being modernized and that of course has created thousands of jobs. With the World Cup and the millions of tourists and investors it would attract would certainly boost South Africa's market economy. And the last time I checked, South Africa still had the largest economy in Africa, larger than Albania, Bulgaria and Ukraine combined.


First of all, not all of the Afrikaaners have left as there are still roughly 5 million whites left in Africa. What you sould tell is what were these Afrikaneers who left doing for the black South Africans when they were there? Nothing, blacks lived in abject poverty during apartheid; so I don't see what's the advantage of having a tiny minority of Afrikaneers that control every aspect of an economy, have some of the highest quality of life in the world if the overwhelming majority of the population lived under the poverty line. So my point is: Black South Africans weren't better off when Afrikaaners were ruling the country. Now you have an emergence of a black south African middle class and even black multi-millionaire and billionaires...something that was unheard of under Apartheid.

It's up to you to prove to us that there's a correlation between "South Africa being in a hole" and the mass departure of Afrikaaners

Although all whites benefited from Apartheid directly or indirectkt by receiving better education, jobs and so on, that does not mean that all these groups supported Apartheid, and in fact, most of these whites still remain in South Africa. To be fair, White south Africans tend to get lumped into one category as a bunch of racist Afrikaaners. This is not actually the case. There are four quite different groups of white South Africans:

-those that descended from the Dutch settlers who arrived in the Cape in the late 1600's

- those of British descent from Britons who came to South Africa in the 1800's until after the Second World War

- those of second or third generation British descent that moved to South Africa from other African colonies at their independence - Kenya and Zimbabwe included.

- those immigrants from Southern European stock - Greeks, Portugese, Italians and Jews particularly - that came in large numbers after the Second War to seek a better life than was available in post WW2 Europe

And let the country become like most African countries??? - poverty striken. The country needs all its educated people, whether they be white or black. The country is going downhill, like its neighbour Zimbabwe. Pity

 

South Africa's problems are much greater and predate Global Economic downturn.
Its going downhill because of widespread corruption and mis governance.
And that is not to say that the previous system was right.
You cannot compare South Africa with Europe. Recession hit countries like Iceland and Ireland are still wealthy countries, even on an European scale.

 

Most white South Africans have been there longer than Africans in USa or Europe ...........so do we apply the same suggestion to the many poor black people in these Western countries ???

 

True, you can't compared South Africa with Europe One country just emerged from Apartheid less than 20 years ago and had 30 millions black people living in abject poverty and the overwhelming majority of them were illiterate.

And then on the other hand, you have a continent were the richest countries benefited either directly or indirectly from the free lavor slavery provided and the ressources pillaged through European colonialism. Arguably, slavery lead to the industrial revolution, and colonialsm helped many European countries to become rich by trading among themselves.

The British Empire attacked and pillaged half this planet, so is it suprising that it's richer than India, Nigeria or all the other African countries it colonized? The people that exploit others are usually richer than those who are exploited.

Other than some oil in Norway and Russia, which has alot of natural ressources, Europe has no natural ressources! Africa has every natural ressources known to man and to God, but virtually no industries. Europe on the other hand has all the industries but no natural ressources with the exceptions of the countries i've listed. So the question is, where does Europe go get the natural ressources it need to fuel their industries? Where does France get its oil? Where does Belgium get the diamonds etc?

So yes, alot of African countries are poor, but just saying so would be oversimplying a very complex issue. It would be interesting for you to explain to us the dynamic behind the poverty in many African countries. You sould tell us more about neo-colonialism and why every single black African leader that tried to emancipate his country and his people was systematically removed politically or physically by the West

Belgian colonized Congo, and it's richer than Congo. France colonized many African countries and it's richer than the entire African continent. Great Britain colonized as many African countries as France and it's richer than Nigeria and India combined!

Hmmm, could there be a correlation between wealth and exploitation of people and pillaging of ressources? I know, Germany and Japan would be an exception, but their biggest trading partners are countries that have subjugated and exploitated Africa, no?

 

It still doesn't make it their Country.

They are invaders.

 

Ireland and Iceland won't be wealthy for long.

 

Zimbabwe is busted for the same reason Argentina is now.

The world bank loaned them money..then jacked the interest rates beyond their ability to pay..which gave them the opportunity to "privatize" their resources once they defaulted.

You only hear about Mugabe...not the World Bank.
