Political correctness, a blessing or an evil?

Political correctness is only permissible when something is being displayed or looked at objectively. In real life I can be a very rash person. People either love me or hate me and I have come to expect it. Its hard to establish genuine relationships being politically correct. Just my two cents...

In Britain definately some things are over the top for example some Primary schools (5-11 year olds) Have a non-competitive sports days so all the children win so there are no distinctions between winners and losers. This is clearly detrimental to the well being of children as life is harsh and a competition if they dont learn this early on then their future lives will be harder.

And some things like the equal oppurtunities act where you have all female shortlists etc.. It should be based on merit but clearly we have not got there.

Yep... and we can't call a blackboard a blackboard anymore. Or use the term 'brain storming.' Stupid.

Spot on... there is a gray area where political correctness meets honesty... and if people get too far over, it gets impossible to develop a genuine relationship of any kind.

Granted, some brain to mouth filters can be good but as a person who likes the brutal honesty, I want you to say what you mean...
But, as I said on here a hunderd times, its not what you say, but how you say it.

I do believe that sometimes too much could be said that would damage a potential or existing relationship, but I've reached a point in my life where those type of things have little or no effect on me. I've made bad decisions in the past because people told me little white lies because they wanted to cater to my ego or emotions. I am a grown man and I don't need someone else to be the gatekeeper of my personal well-being. Just tell me the truth and give me the space to handle my business the way I see fit. I respect honesty...no matter how severe or harsh it is.

Im with you all the way..
Little white lies are just plain lies to me - and the road to hell was paved with "good intentions".. so I dont need that, I can handle the truth.. I sometimes might take issue with it, but it usually is in the delivery and not the message.. that I can handle - way better than little white lies.

I was thinking the same thing. People are gonna be racist even if it's talked about or not. It's crazy when a racist says; 'I'm not racist, but". Then they continue to say something that is racist. Or when they say "Why when whites speaking the truth or voice our opinions you call us racist". LOL, folks will NEVER admit to being racist even if there is a decision.

As long as the playing field appears to be uneven there will always be political correctness.
