It's an end of an era.

After 6 decades as the preeminent nudey magazine, Playboy is ditching the nipples and beavers. They are still going to feature sexy women but the models will no longer be naked.

Oh well, I guess will just have to rely on the 4 million porn sites on the internet to see sexy naked photos.

They went thru that phase before...

When Hugh was married to Kimberly Conrad, they printed "Tasteful" pics then too for a little while. Then Kimberly had an IR affair with Quincy Jones. Hugh Divorced her and they went back to normal.

I guess this is just a publicity stunt for readership to start crying and more money coming in from more subscribers begging to return back to nudity.

    It's all about the money...

    I don't think so.
There's a generation of young men who don't get what the big deal is about Playboy.
The interwebz is so saturated with porn it's literally not the same taboo it was decades ago.

It's hard to compete in the adult entertainment industry as a nude magazine publication when any porn tube site can show you full hardcore clips of EVERYTHING for free.

To me it makes more sense for Playboy to go the route of Maxim, FHM and DETAILS and try to compete as a men's lifestyle mag. Greater circulation and more ad dollars.

Before the Internet, guys like Hefner and Bob Guccione at the height of their magazine circulations in the early 1980s were each worth between $300-500 million.

That simply cannot happen today selling subscriptions to a nude pic mag.

The interwebz did a serious hit and run on Hefner and Guccione.

In hindsight with their brand name recognition, Penthouse and Playboy should have transitioned in the early 1990s to online video pictorials, interviews and soft porn clips of models.

    Oh well.

Horse and buggy to the combustion engine.
    Trains to airplanes.
    Radio to TV.
    Silent film to talkies.

In business and technology, if your long view can't see what's coming around the corner, it means you're about to get run over.

I remember subscribing to Maxim, FHM, Stuff and Playboy. I used to read Penthouse. Hefner and Guccione and Larry Flynt did all right back in the days and are still going strong in the other magazines that they publish. When I was at the academy, we were told that the inmates had subscriptions to Playboy. Playboy sent the inmates magazines that didn't show much like Maxim, FHM and Stuff. But those magazines were all about teasing the reader. Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler showed it all(well, Hustler showed more than Playboy and Penthouse). If this is High Hefner's and Playboy's swan song. I usy say that it ran its course
The internet has made things more accessible to consumers and difficult for the adult industry.

LOL. Why not just end the magazine instead?

There should be premium subscriber content online. At least the celebrity women features should see an uptick.
