It actually increased sharply in 2009.........so given it goes up with unemployment it probably has little to do with the dems...........so we defer to you to answer what the hell is going on. :D

Obama supporters know that the moron called Dubya who occupied the white house fucked up the economy so bad it might take even more than a 2 term Obama Presidency to bring it up to par. The republicans conveniently leave the 8 years before Obama out when they are ranting forgettimg that Dubya was so unpopular that he couldnt even campaign for Mcain unlike Clinton who was a rock star and was courted by Gore in 2000. If (di)M(w)itt Romney is elected President, America will be the butt of jokes in diplomatic circles.

Romney’s ad says, "Under Obama’s plan (for welfare), you wouldn’t have to work and wouldn’t have to train for a job. They just send you your welfare check."

That's a drastic distortion of the planned changes to Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. By granting waivers to states, the Obama administration is seeking to make welfare-to-work efforts more successful, not end them. What’s more, the waivers would apply to individually evaluated pilot programs -- HHS is not proposing a blanket, national change to welfare law.

The ad tries to connect the dots to reach this zinger: "They just send you your welfare check." The HHS memo in no way advocates that practice. In fact, it says the new policy is "designed to improve employment outcomes for needy families."

The ad’s claim is not accurate, and it inflames old resentments about able-bodied adults sitting around collecting public assistance. Pants on Fire!

LOL, Iggy you actually take politicians seriously.

I laugh to myself when they start talking because its usually a bunch of cockamamie bull that they are going to spew anyway.

I cannot take politics seriously given the rancid climate today around that subject. It is not about getting anything done, its about keeping score to feed the gullible masses at feeding time aka elections.

    Here Kitty, Kitty.

WSJ article about the sharp increase in 2009 after Clinton cut back eligibility about ten years prior. And holy shit look at the average amount they get each month. This is a get rich quick scheme for sure.

    Full article here:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124562449457235503.html

    Excerpts:

Welfare rolls, which were slow to rise and actually fell in many states early in the recession, now are climbing across the country for the first time since President Bill Clinton signed legislation pledging "to end welfare as we know it" more than a decade ago.

The recent rise in welfare families across the country is a sign that the welfare system is expanding at a time of added need, assuaging fears of some critics of Mr. Clinton's welfare overhaul who said the truly needy would be turned away.

Welfare cases peaked at above five million in 1995 and declined sharply after the 1996 law put time limits on benefits and emphasized moving recipients from welfare to work. The time limits vary by state, but the federally mandated maximum is five years with some exceptions; after that, benefits end.

The average monthly welfare benefit in 2006, which reflects the most current data collected by the government, was $372.

100 million Americans are on welfare??
    You're smoking crack Iggy.

For every person who's on welfare, there's someone else who's getting OFF IT.

But that '100 million' number is the kind of bullshit lies put out by the right wing with no basis in reality.

The real number is roughly half the imaginary figure posted by Iggy.:smt021

Well, Obama does like to give out food stamps.

Imagine that. A US presidents who thinks small children should go to bed hungry at nite.

What a revolutionary fucking concept..helping the poor.

You know? It seems to me there was a guy a while back that was all against not letting the poor suffer unduly.
    What was his name again?

But then I'm sure Mittens KNOWS ALL about that huh?

    He's Mormon...

I really wish people would focus on the things that would fix this fucking country instead the hot point issues that do nothing but divide.

Even if a child was put on food stamps as a baby and collected until 18 that's NoTHinG! Compared to the amount our government finances for HUGE multinational corps that aren't broke.

If these numbers are even true, the overall statistics of people on welfare is not indicative of some sort of mass sloth on the part of the working class. It is more an indicator of the disproportionate skewing of economic policy towards the interests of capital as opposed to workers. A more accurate depiction of people's willingness to work is the near-statistical full employment levels of 3.5% reached during the Clinton years.

They only people who mooch off the government is the fucking government itself.

How effective has congress been at in point in the last three years?

    Very. Lol.

It's something crazy like 7,000 (I'll actually look it up once I'm more awake) dollars a minute to keep congress in session.

When you look at the fact that those mooching off the system thru welfare get roughly that in a whole Year..

    It renders your argument invalid.

Thus my disdain for politicians and politics today across the spectrum.

What is taking place in Washington with the grandstanding and one-upmanship is an utter farce of the political process.

Is there anything to even defend about those folks given the atmosphere in that cesspool of lobbyists, corporate influence and bailouts and the wining and dining of those very Congressional types.

Whenever I encounter politics on my television I click right over it and keep moving on to something else.
