true but how does this relate to the post that Black women relate to black men more? other than race(color, history and racism) we dont necessarily have many things in common.

i dont have much in common with blacks of different socio economic status, other than we are black, may have suffered racism and our history descendants of slaves)

My point was that anyone, so white women too, can relate just fine to BM, if they know what it is like when someone does you un-justice (and most if not all people do) and want to relate to (if they care to support and be there for someone or not). I don't think it takes a BW to do that. And I was reffering strictly to the issue of discrimination out of racism, not relate as in common interests and tastes and other things as such, which I think also, its up to the individual, not the race.

    but each injustice is different..

if you have been raped, only someone who has been raped can understand, not just someone who has endured another kind of suffering. We can imagine, but not truly be there.

so in one way a black woman will always understand in a deeper sense what a black man goes through just by being black. You have to give them that respect for that. We can have a zillion black friends, even bear children from a black man, but we are never black and some things we will never understand.

At any moment as a white woman, you can take a break, walk out of your surroundings and go spend time with a room full of white women.. or go to a mall in a white neighborhood and leave the black world. A black person will walk in their shoes every minute of their life.

So while we may understand what it is like to go through our own sufferings and trials, so as to find some empathy or or birds eye view of what they deal with, we will still never be in their shoes.

hmmmm Sassy, I gotta agree with you  . You make a good point, only a black person knows what its like being black just as only a raped woman knows what its like to be raped.

    doesnt matter

Of course it is true that bw can relate more to the "black experience" but it doesn't mean much when it comes to love and attraction.

It is kind of like this-

My OB-GYN has never had cramps, PMS , tits nor a baby but that doesn't prevent him from being an incredible doctor.

    more

i just wanted to add---and ask.....

I really don't see my guy in terms of being a part of a collective. And good grief aren't black folks tired of being viewed solely based on their "suffering"?

I tend to believe that there is much more to the psyche of black men than their struggles. Than the negative. Than poverty. Than racism. And sheesh-who the hell wants to be required to share those things in order to have a relationship?

Maybe the first step to better relations between BW and BM might be to commune on much more substantial values than their limitations.

Yes, along with being viewed solely based on what's regularly aired on BET.

    Most feminist white women.

    Your insight is greatly appreciated.

well... I can't take all the credit for that wisdom said there. I've been a part of IR boards and chatrooms for several years now and what I said there a friend (and BM) stated on this subject. When he said it, I thought, that is so true. So I am just passing on the wisdom of another.
