I thought about this today while driving to work, they played my all time favourite LL Cool J song (around the way girl) and it just reminds me of the "old days" (DAMN I sound old)

Anyway, my question is if you think back what do you miss?
    Some for me are

    - slow dancing :p
    - guys who knew that "YO" is not a way to address a woman
    - A Tribe called quest (sigh)
    - people that were not as pretentious as they are today
    - we didn't have to hear about Paris, Lindsay and Britney

    Old School/What do you miss?

:D Ice Cream Castles by the Time, and the interracial dating scene in Minneapolis/The Midwest. I was too young to experiece this in full effect, but the very idea of seeing white girls boogie to black pop at school dances and then later on in the club really excited me. :D

1.I also miss black guys/white girls minus the "thug" element.
    2. Fewer guns and more fun. :D

    Damn that's funny Wed.

I remember seeing Prince and Purple Rain and thinking racism is on the way out and the future looked bright.
    Ha!!!!!

    Anyway,
I like a lot of old school club and house music.
    2 In a Room
    Stevie V
    Cathy Dennis
    Black Box
    KLF
    Inter City

A lot of stuff from the late 80's and early 90's.

I miss 90's Grunge music too.

Staying out at night and not thinking about getting shot or carjacked.
People did not have anything to prove so there were less fights and shootings.

I miss old school hip hop that meant something and great R&B. You have to find them since they don't get much airplay. I miss Friday Night Videos and NY Hot Tracks including Video Soul and Yo! MTV Raps.

And you didn't hear of Britney, Paris, and Beyounce.

Man, if i started to list the things i missed from "the days", we could be hear for ages. But hey, let's give it a shot:

1990s NBA. I was a Bulls fan (for obvious reasons) but the NBA was just fun generally in the 90s with guys like Hakeem, Barkley, Ewing, Pippen, David Robinson and Jordan himself.

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air

    The Cosby Show

Air Jordans (arguably the best thing that happened in the 80s)

    Legends of the Hidden Temple

    Johnny Quest

Old Skool Rap Tune i.e. NWA, Big Daddy Kane, LL COOL J, G Funk Era

    U.S.A 94 Soccer World Cup

    Saturday Cartoons

12 Play (I love that album to death)

    Super Nintendo

    Boom Boxes

    Portable tape players/walkmans.

    Sega

    Mortal Kombat

    Yo! MTV Raps

East Coast/West Coast beef .... even though it ended fatally, it was fun initially.

Adidas. Run DMC .... enough said.

    Mariah Carey

New Jack Swing i.e. Bobby Brown, Boyz II Men, Jodeci etc.

Most "jazz clubs" actually played jazz music.

    Kenny G

When white girls liked brothas, without the "thug" element, as someone has pointed out.

    Cindy Crawford

Vanessa Williams (the first ever woman to give me a hard on. She still does, )

    Jheri Curls

High top fades like Will Smith's in Fresh Prince. I had one myself.

That's all i can think of for now.

I miss the days when people knew how to appreciate bass in music! In my day we had no need for a subwoofer.

I grew up on reggae/dub but still listened to a lot of funk with its complex and memorable basslines. Remember In Deep's 'Last Night a DJ saved My Life'?

Nowadays we just have prettyboys with cell phones with speakers blaring out 90% tinny treble!!!

A bit technical, I know. But growing up on music that had no lyrics (dub), you get to listen to the sound as well as the actual music.

I don't care for many types of music but I can really respect people who learn an instrument and the engineers who still have analogue skills.

Ha, people's general opinions about today's music are umm smelly...

Is today's urban music what it was 20 years ago? Does that mean it sucks? No, it just means you have to look harder if you're not agreeing with what Urban and Top 40 radio is giving you.

I hate (and I repeat) hate playing for you knuckleheads in the US that are over 30 and yearing for a night club that doesn't play house/trance or "Asses, Money, Clothes, Hoes, Bitches" rap music... You bitch and complain too much.

I have wondered if a club geared specficially towards those over 25 (Bergen has a club Metro, nobody under 26) would work in the US. I believe it would, I'll have to work on that.

The only things I really miss is -

    Saturday Morning Cartoons
    My Old DJ Equipment
When Partying was worry-free and guns just weren't apart of it

I don't miss old game systems I have EMULATORS....
