Tavern on the Green, a restaurant located in Central Park on the Upper West Side of New York City, is counting its last days of operation as the 1934 restaurant will serve its last meals on the 31st of this month.1934 marked the conversion of a sheepfold into the beautiful restaurant under Robert Moses. Warner LeRoy took over the restaurant’s lease later and pushed an additional $10 million for beautification of the already beautiful restaurant. He restarted the joint in 1976 to dazzle the food lovers with the classy décor, the gardens, the multiple dining rooms that allow people to choose from multiple environments depending on their mood or the occasion etc. Out of all the several dining rooms, a room filled with chandeliers and glass walls overlooking the restaurant’s adjacent garden in Central Park called the Crystal Room was the most famous. LeRoy family, the owner of the legendary restaurant that grossed revenues of $38 million, from more than 500,000 visitors in 2007 becoming the second highest-grossing independently-owned restaurant in the United States filed for bankruptcy after the city failed to renew its operating license. Tavern on the Green will be auctioned from Jan 13th to 16th. Baccarat crystal chandeliers to the silverware and antiques to decorative items will all be auctioned. You can visit Guernseys.com or call 212-794-2280 to bid on piece of the Tavern or just wish good luck to the LeRoy family.
