why are so many men obsessed with the stick figures, the bony barony, the anorexic and the masculine/boyish type women.

this website is indicative of the kinds of starving to fit a white male version of beauty, and it is carrying over to women of color too.

Now I haven't read the whole site, but my reaction is that it's not the white men who like these models!! It's the gay men who run the fashion industry!!! The women look more like men, so it's only normal that the gay men would like their bodies and find that their designs "hang" better on the skinny women. Gay men could not be bothered with a real woman's curves!

The problem is that this is what is being shown to WOMEN as the ideal of beauty and most women DON'T look like that. I think I read somewhere that the average north American woman wears a size 12.. and well, models are usually a size 0!!! Hello? Big difference no?

In my experience, most white men also prefer a woman with a little meat on her bones than a stick figure!

 

I concur, this is an obsession by gay men for skinny boys and not real men, though i know a few metrosexual white guys who love these too, but not my real men buddies

But not everybody needs a model type. If you look at the survey (you have to vote yourself to see the vote count) , you will see that most people think that "normal women" (eg. thicker, older, etc.) are gorgeous as well.

Maybe the gay men in the fashion business prefer that type of woman to model their clothes, but the average gay man likes boobs! A lot of gay men are quite flamboyant, they like glamour and they like divas...not skinny little androgynous CK One types. When I've been to gay clubs I've often had gay men complimenting me on my "fabulous" breasts, and if I'm wearing a tiara, well, you may as well call pass me some ruby slippers and call me Dorothy!

I suppose that gay men, like any other person with a head for business does what is profitable. Who started this skinny model phase I don't know (some say Twiggy but if and why I don't know).

After posting this article people still do not know what is femininity!?!? A logical assertion that gives many principles to back its theory and you people still do not know what femininity is!? They are not saying women of size 12 to be more feminine OR EVEN NORMAL; they also do not say women who are slender and have "stick figures" to be more masculine. Such assertions are absurd - reality from fiction people!

A more "masculinized" women will not have an hourglass figure - if she is slender or bigger. Hence the punch line: "Real men like curves and real women have curves" -- this means the hourglass figure, it has no correlation to weight. Even a small breasted women can have the "hourglass" and she still be considered more feminine than the women who is slightly overweight or "thicker." It is all about the pelvic region and torso ratio. A more masculinized women will have a narrower pelvis, broader shoulders and rib cage.

You see, an obese, slightly overweight, thick, etc women may have bigger breasts; but, she will also have a larger pelvis to her hip- to- weight ratio than an slender women and their backsides would be flatter. Also, she will have greater testosterone levels. That is NOT feminine, let that sink in - as a matter of FACT they even give you examples of a what is an feminine women in comparison to an "masculinized" women. I totally agree with each and every assertion they make. I do have to say Heidi Klum did "fill up" a lot better after having a baby.

This information arises so many questions. Is it fair to say white women are more feminine then black women!? And are black men more masculinized then white men!? Are white women more likely to have a attractive face than a black female!? Are white men likely have a more attractive face then black men!? Who has the feminine bum!? Black women or white women!? How does it vary!?

 

7seven is right, but no-one seems to have pointed out, also, that fashion models are not really required to be 'sexy' in a certain sense, because sexy models and sexy women are really only modelling "themselves". Fashion models are, effectively, living clothes rails: they move elegantly and their boyish bodies allow the clothes to hang to their best advantage - because generally skinny women do look more striking in designer clothes, but curvy girls look more striking out of them! The neutrality of the fashion models' figures, and the bland androgyny of their faces allows the eye to fall on what they are wearing, not on them, but they need an angular and elegant frame to make the clothes look lovely.

 

Yeah, obviously the majority of men do not find these women all that attractive. Straight men can tell immediately from the difference a feminine women and a masculinized women. One can also conclude the majority of men are straight.

Also, this concludes that women should start listening to men of what they find "sexy" instead of indulging themselves with global liberal media propaganda -- life inflicting changes to their bodies which are not necessary. I have always said, "suffering is always self-inflicted do to one's moronic inadequacies."

 

Well, really, women should listen to themselves to find out which moments they feel sexiest and realise that that is them at their purest essence, which is the sexiest they will ever become. Even the opinions of men are subjective not objective, and it is not always possible for men to find most attractive about women what the woman finds attractive about themselves. You live with yourself forever, so be the person you love rather than trying to be someone that other people will love.

 

Oh!!! Your polarizing: "Your Soul is in your keeping." Admirable, and obviously, a women should look deep within her Soul to find her "inner sexiness." That constitutes good mental health, but good mental health encompasses all things related. You can not say this ideal of a man's is subjective because it is different than the next. That ideal is reality to him in that present moment and time.

 

These models don't take these photos and do these runway shows because they know men will find them attractive. It's because they know OTHER women will see these photos and runway shows and want to imitate it, from an inferiority complex of themselves as being 'thicker' women, and feeling unattractive in comparison to these models because of it.

It's all about money.

 

Hi y'all, I'm new to this site but I had to give my 2 cents on this........I seriously don't get why women obsess over trying to be a size 0 or in the case of Eva Longoria, 00......I for one do not want a woman that has a more well defined 6-pack than I do....nothing wrong with being fit but seriously....ladies would you want a man who looked more like a woman?

 

white men love them like that. thats why they flock to asian women and thats why they are always oggling skinny girls. believe me when i say, i grew up almost exclusively in white neigborhoods and all the locker room talk, all the bar room talk, all the bs is always about how to get a hot, skinny, model chick. Now, they will settle for a girl next door, with a little chunk, but they dont really desire it.

they want a trophy to show off to their friends, they base their self worth on the type of girl they can, as they say, Bag!

I used to have heated arguments about it with my friends and I was always the one with the larger girlfriend, and they always had something nasty to say about what they called "Fat" girls. thats why so many white women have eating disorders and body image problems, while very very few black and hispanic women do.

I know some white guys who aren't like that.....but for the most part what I see is just that.....they fawn over these frail chicks who are cute in the face but much too thin in the waist. If a guy wants a trophy wife...and a wife constitutes the feminine half of a husband-wife relationship....it would make more sense to desire a woman who is the epitome of FEMININITY not MASCULINITY.......Some of the men who like skinny girls however are not trying to be degrading to "normal" size women....a lot of guys that I see (mainly white and asian) will look at a small girl and truly believe she is thick until the black and hispanic guys laugh him into shame. i think it is just different standards for different people

 

i hear that. I mean, some ladies some white guys find attractive seem pretty hysterical to me. I mean, some time ago, a white guy on my campus told me that Teri Hatcher was thick. I laughed my butt off and that was it. I was just lost for words. I love Teri but thick? Find a replacement. White guys are soo obsessed with skinny women.
In my sociology study group, i can say that of all the males in the group, my girl has the most chunk on her. But she isnt fat by any means. However, most of the guys think she's a little chubby which i find ridiculous. But hey, different standards, isnt it?
