:smt029FAMILY! I know this belongs in the Movie section, but I wanted to make sure this got some exposure because I'm IN SHOCK!! I just saw the preview for 'Obsessed'....I'M IN COMPLETE SHOCK! Mainstream Hollywood is actually releasing a moving about a WHITE WOMAN obsessed with a MARRIED BLACK MAN! Damn, Barack dun' changed the world!! Just kidding. I swear, it feels just like the night Barack was elected...this is a new micky-fickin' era!!! Idris Elba is the brother who had an affair with Ali Larter who becomes fatally obsessed with him. BEYONCE plays the wife who eventually whoops ass! I just can't contain my damn excitment right now. Who knows, the movie may end up being garbage, but the mere fact that HOLLYWOOD would even release this to the big-screen...it's like Jed Clampett struck oil!!! When J.J. got a job! When Tommy finally hooked up with Pam! And especially the first time you saw the Jackson Five's video for 'Can you feel it'!!! To my beautiful Snow-Bunnies and my bruthas....WE FINALLY HIT THE BIG-TIME!! The world is ours!!!:smt043:smt043:smt043
ummm baby you know I have mad love for you! But it's been posted already - a couple of times actually...once by me. I have a much different take on it personally.
...oh, fo'real? Sorry. Paint me an idiot. I feel pretty stupid. ..but I still can't contain my excitement...I feel like the activists who marched with Dr. King and finally saw Barack elected. Sorry family...carry-on.
Your seventies/early eighties references resonate perfectly with me, but I don't know how many others picked up on it. I am looking forward to seeing the movie, but I don't think even Beyonce will be able to accurately portray the passion of a sista scorned by a WW.
LMAO!! Mayne, I was hoping somebody would pick-up on my analogies, especially the 'Can you Feel' it video...that was classic...matter'of fact, I'm going to youtube right now to watch it.
Yep, it was high tech in those days. But it wasn't the Jackson 5 (Motown original group), it was the Jacksons (Epic, take away Jermaine, add Randy).
wack. If i were a white woman, that dated black men,i'd be insulted by this movie. Plus i dont really like the lead brother they choose for the role,as an actor
Yea, I think the white woman's role is extreme. But, it doesn't really bother me. People can be nuts, even a white woman fornicating with a married black man. It's just a movie. :smt045
Gaahhdammn, its just a movie. I don't see any reason for a ww to be insulted. Nobody criticized fatal attraction or similar movies...oh, I guess that's ok cause they were all white. Why is it an issue now? ...bm & bw have had stereotypical and condescending roles since cinema began. It's just a fuggin' movie. Would everybody be happy if it was "Leave it to Beaver" with a Black husband and white wife, no drama, no frills? Should every movie be like that? No one would go see it. I want to see all kinds of scenarios involving bm & ww...action, drama, comedy...whatever. This is just one...but of course...we complain. If Jesus came down and hand-delivered us the Key to the Pearly-Gates, we'd complain about it not being shiney enough. It's a 'Thriller'...damn, can a nugga just be thrilled and enjoy Beyonce? The simple fact that they're showing a bm & ww ON-SCREEN romanctically is an achievement by itself. We used to get hung just for winking at ww.....shit, I'm thrilled with the idea. Even Denzel chose not to be shown on-screen being romantic with a ww for fear of backlash.................from BLACK-FOLK. I can see why...we're Crabs. Gahdamn, always a storm on the parade. Can't please nodamnbody on this forum. Like I said before, Black folks can be our own worst enemy.
