Looks like Obsessed will do between $25-$30 million over the weekend for the #1 spot. Anybody seen it yet??? What's the 411 on the IR scene???

You know it didn't really matter how well the movie did or not, there's still a cultural phenomenon happening as far as IR dating is concerned.

Contrary to popular opinion, it's films like these that actually help the cause.

    I don't know about y'all, but I'd let Ali Larter's sexy-ass stalk me for a lil bit.:smt003

I'll probably end up seeing this joint, just to get my IR kicks

Id rather it had a better premise and an ending where the black guy paired with the white girl, but oh well

that's what 'Save the Last Dance' is for

    :)

Saw the flick via gratis pass two nights ago. Loved it but,I wished another IR flick would have a happy ending. Wished there are bold WW like that in the US but, they always there only if the brother is livin large.

Its sad that this flick is even considered an IR film to some of you, especially where BM/WW are concerned. Some folks are so dying to see such representation that they will accept any form it comes in. No thanks. hate that the film was made; hate even more that its going to be #1.

Some of my co-workers saw it...they said Ali stole the show....Bey was passable as "acting".
Bey and her dad along with Magic Johnson exe-produced the film...I think she's aware of her limitations which is why she does the ensemble cast thing...kinda like what Whitney was doing...if she has a good co-star and great plot...folks won't noticed her so much.

For some reason I wanna see the deleted scenes more than I do the movie itself.

I wonder exactly what was too risque for the film that eventually ended up on the cutting room floor.

I just saw the movie earlier today. It was not bad at all. I don't know why people got the impression it was a movie about IR because there are NO racial elements written into this movies' characters. I am pretty sure the screenwriter wrote these characters as race-neutral, and all these racial elements people are drawing from the storyline are coincidental. Those who will only see race in this are the people who are obsessed with race and only want to see race. It should be noted that there isn't a single scene were Idriss Elba or Ali Larter' race are mentionned either directly or indirectly.

Ali Larter did an excellent job and was very convincing as the disturbed stalker. She stole nearly every scene she was in because of her acting and of course hotness.

The theater I saw it wasn't really packed and there were nothing but white people, mostly women, who cheered and bellowed when Beyonce...well, the audience was clearly rooting for Beyonce and her character was also very likable and convincing. She did a good job overall and looked like she improved her acting range.

no behind the scenes people see race, if the people making these
movies didn't see race so much then why is it so hard to cast interracial
bm and ww couples in mainstream films?
But easy to cast it if it was bw and wm? Like in the new star trek flick.
They where quick to remake the first interracial kiss between a black woman and white man(and to note take it to the next level at that with
a sex scene.), but not the first interracial kiss between a black man and white woman in A PATCH OF BLUE

We are all talking about the racism that surrounds it which is the comfort
of having BM and WW in non romantic situations, but the uncomfort mainstream seems to have with them in romantic situations.

You're joking right??? I mean, do you or anybody with a sense of tv or racial history, really need to know that Hollywood will do an IR story between a white man and black woman? They're in that transitionary mode with respect to IR relationships in that town. Probably the fact that this is about the most liberal this american audience will be to such a relationship that they are doing it at all. But just a quick Star Trek history lesson.

In a few short years, there will be genetic cloning. There will be an uprising and world war III. Countries are in shambles and populations scattered. In north america in 2063, a man creates a warp ship and ushers in a new era thus creating the Federation a few years later. James Kirk, who was born in Iowa (yes, still have states in the future), doesn't come along for like another 100 years or so give or take. Thus, this story in the movie is a while from now in our history. Why the short lesson folks?? Because, I've been watching S.T. for years and it has always been about the future. And this like racial prejudice, poverty, war,...all those things should be less of an issue after a few hundred years. But every movie showing ANY relationship generally involves a white male with a white or minority female. Not often, like in most movies, do you see a brotha with any real relationship, much less IR. Typical Hollywood. I guess my question is in James Kirk's era, the 22th century(??), where are all the white women for him to woo over??? It's just such a narrow view for an industry which is attempting to push it's own quiet IR agenda.

Maybe because that's the way the movie has been advertised. The way the commercials have had it is a woman (ww) who just happens to be "obsessed" with a man (bm) she works with. But of course there are no race elements written in because they want the scenario to be relateable to the audience. I for one am NOT obsessed with race. Number one, I only heard about the movie and two, most importantly, I didn't put the cast list together. I mean really, would the effectiveness of Beyonce's character been lessened had the obsessed woman been another black woman??? I don't think so. And that's really the whole argument for more. Race is the quiet little factor in the room because this type of movie caters to those fears that alot of black women out there have about bm/ww couples and flings where the ww seems to have no disregard for the man's family or happy relationship with a sistah. Now maybe the writers tried there damndest to not put race at the forefront, but c'mon folks, let's not forget what country we live in.

Yeah...., because she's a good actress and I am a fan of hers. That part probably no one will dispute. But may your theater audience speaks my argument better. You said nothing by white women there mostly. Well....women will probably recognize with the "fatal attraction" theme of this movie in an emotional way. And of course will back Beyonce's character as Ali's was protrayed as a crazed homewrecker. I just find it disturbing that hollyweird must continue to prey upon women's insecurities about relationships in order to get them into the theaters.

AMEN. That goes to the continued argument of a double standard in that town. With Star Trek, it's not shocking because white men get to make the rules about how far those scenes go. And let's face it, I've seen plenty of hate mail online where they are disgusted watching a bm/ww in bed together. But they'll take every kind of woman from us and go as far as they want.

Um, but with respect to "A Patch of Blue." I'm assuming you're are talking about the Sidney Poiter joint co-starring Shelly Winters right??? If so, I saw that and it was about as close to a love story between a bm and a ww as they could do back then. You must remember the time period. That was when they eventually started using "mixed" women to play opposite black men on-screen knowing how disgusted white men would feel seeing them with white women. So that movie had to have it's limitations.

No, my problem today is why is that still a practice in Hollywood today??? Sure, there are plenty of whites out there who don't like IR. But alot of people now generally don't even care. But that town still uses the same formula and rules from the 1950s with respect to race and relationships. Ya'll notice no one really cries hard when it's a wm/bw couple. But everyone cries that it's promoting IR dating when it's a bm/ww couple. Stupid. Hollywood should just do it and stop with all the dumb race stuff. It's just insulting at this point. Really, it is. There are plenty of white and black actors in Hollywood to spare to do some IR where people can accept it. I just think it's a little racist that white people sitting in a room in Hollywood get to decide what race is and what it's supposed to look like. That's the main reason why I don't go to the movies ANYMORE.

A bigger question is, "what does it say when our own people are the main architects for putting it on the big screen???"
