I notice not much is said or written about the interracial legacy of Barack Obama in the media. Maybe i'm not looking or hearing the feedback in the right places. But the impact of his white mother and her family is profound. The fact that she chose an african man to marry and have a child speaks a lot about her especially in that time in which she lived. His father is hardly mentioned and his own background. If only both were alive today to see their son. What a poweful story it would be for two parents of two different races and cultures standing beside their son who potentially could be President of the United States.
It proves that great things can happen if black & white come together. Malcolm & Martin would both be proud.
I think it will be tab bit harder for white parents to not accept their daughtersblack bf if hes a upstanding, good guy. That is,if hes elected.
I don't think a black presidency will have any effect on interracial couples. It's not about parents not liking black boyfriends or husbands. Racism still exists in this country and in many countries. But parents are biologically induced to pass down thier genes to thier children and so on. Despite what most people here think, every single ethnicity wants to spread thier heritage, culture, values and most importantly, BLOODLINE to thier children and childrens children. It's biology. But that can be construed as racism as well.
True....people want to pass down their legacy and culture but sometimes the racism can be what I call "selective racism." Becky Patton brings home Tim Chang....her parents are surprised but they like his family and "values." (despite the fact he's a Buddhist and she's a Christian). Becky dumps Tim Chang 2 months later and starts dating Tyrone Jackson....her and Tyrone share more in common but her parents are considerably less comfortable with their grandkids being "black".....if they were Tim's kids...they'd be "white"
