President-elect will be the first incoming Head of State to use that Bible since Lincoln himself.

The bible touched by President Abraham Lincoln while he was sworn in as the nation's 16th president will be taken out of its resting place at the Library of Congress and used next month for the inauguration in of our 44th Commander-in-Chief.

According to the Associated Press, Barack Obama will be the first president since Lincoln to use that Bible when he is sworn in on Jan. 20.

"President-elect Obama is deeply honored that the Library of Congress has made the Lincoln Bible available for use during his swearing-in," Presidential Inaugural Committee Executive Director Emmett Beliveau said in a statement Tuesday.

The burgundy velvet Bible with gilded edges was purchased and inscribed by William Thomas Carroll, clerk of the Supreme Court. It will be on display at the Library of Congress February 12 to May 9 as part of an exhibition titled "With Malice Toward None: The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Exhibition."

The exhibit will then travel to five other American cities in commemoration of the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth on Feb. 12, 1809.

Obama will also trace the train route that Lincoln took and hold a welcome event at the Lincoln Memorial ahead of his inauguration.

Very cool, I heard that many presidents have used Washington's Bible. It's surprising that Lincoln hasn't been used yet. Obama models himself after Lincoln because they were both influential Illinois politicians.

I hope Obama can have an immediate positive impact on the country. Lincoln's impact came much later on after his death and during his presidency the whole country was obviously divided.

The very division in America was a huge impact that Lincoln had on this country, and he did the best he could with a huge issue that nearly tore the states apart.

I think it no small honor that Obama be allowed to use this particular Bible, and I also see it's fascinating that our Presidents still must be sworn in on a BIBLE.

Hhhhmmmm..... Now that's wonderful, God Bless America!!!

I agree with you. I however had discussions with christians on other boards; they were of the opinion that the US was not found on Biblical principles. That made me wonder as to why the Bible is use for inaugurations and not a religious book from another religion? Such as the Koran.....
