Is anyone actually surprised by this? If true, it doesn't surprise me at all. Campaign offices are a function of the political and financial power of the various donors. Rich people's kids get positions, experience and valuable networking opportunities. Poor people's children get to hand out flyers and put up yard signs.

 

Everyone needs to remember that Obama was recruited to join the presidency by . . . liberal white people. Most black people in America didn't believe Obama would win the primary with Hillary until things heated up (i.e. the Clinton racism showed).

Obama isn't running for local dogcatcher, he's seeking a 2nd term as POTUS.
He's bringing in professionals, the people who helped him get elected in the first place.

And being a member of Obama's campaign inner circle doesn't mean there aren't dozens if not hundreds of minorities working on the regional level to get Obama reelected.

As far as the upper level of consultants, both parties are essentially media operations with polling and think tanks slapped on for good measure to generate policy proposals. At that level, there are indeed few people of color with national experience other than Donna Brazile, Fred Yang pollsters and a few others. That I don't find as offensive as the dearth of minority youth recruited at campaign time (and this isn't just an indictment of Barack's campaign operation here) for the mid-level posts (field operations, volunteer coordination, fundraising, campaign staff, etc). The donors turn these things into resume builders for their kids, who all come out afterwards with some great experience and exposure, giving them yet another leg up (that they didn't need) in job interviewing and placement.

 

You can't please everybody.

 

And honestly if he had "too many" minorities, especially Blacks, conservatives would whine about that too and probably throw in some comment about affirmative action while they were at it.

But that doesn't change the fact that it's a problem. I doubt one personally of Obama's own making. I seriously doubt he handles hiring and firing at any of the campaign offices he has across the country, including Chicago, but the people working with and under him need to get with the program.

And it wouldn't hurt BO to have a few more faces of color in his inner circle. In terms of political and government appointments, his selections tend to be pretty diverse. But outside of Valerie Jarret and his wife, you really don't see much diversity in regards to the people who work close to him.

That still trumps IMO having a cabinet that's 80% minority.

The fact is there isn't a huge pool of AA to choose from to fill these upper level positions.

If you go down Obama's list a federal top level appointees, I think you'll notice more minorities than you might imagine.

The Attorney General is a brotha, the nation's top law enforcement officer.

Black people are getting greedy.

It's okay for a White guy to roll up into the WH with nothing but White men in his inner circle, but if a BM or WW does the same thing and surrounds themselves with their own, IMO there would be a huge media and public backlash.

 

Compare to the republicans who just don't want black people as a whole anywhere near them.
