and if the cop had not done anything wrong he should have given up his badge number. asking for his badge number is not against the law. you have the ok to get it to report abuse.
Gates lost his cool and the officer couldn't handle being questioned. Gates of all people should know what every black parent tells their sons; when dealing with police...keep cool. The officer is trained to deal with people talking smack...he should have been more professional instead of allowing himself to be made an example of. Interesting that the people who claim the "government" and Obama are fascists and want to control everything...think Gates should kowtow to the police...that the police are always "right" no matter what...kinda ironic...now who REALLY supports fascism?
Isn't it funny how the same people who constantly claim that the government is inherently corrupt and incapable of properly engaging in commerce, maintaining infrastructure, running schools, administering health care or implementing any kind of social program will turn around and yell that the military, government intelligence agencies, and law enforcement are always right, should be given free reign and questioned only upon pain of death.
News flash Gates showed the cop is identification and that still was not enough. Once they checked Gates house and established he lived there it was not any legal justification to arrest Gates. That cop just got pissed that Gates asked for his badge number and ID. Which is Gate legal right to ask for and I don't care if Gates was being a dick and using bad language he didn't threaten the cop or touch him once it was established it was his home it was time for the cop to kick rocks. And even if Gates told the cop to get the hell out of his house after they established that he lived there the cop should have just swallowed his pride and left. And Obama was 100% right and shouldn't apologize for anything the cops acted like fucking morons period.
well now that the facts are coming out, Obama is free to call the guy an idiot, as much as he wants but, he was right, as a politician and a leader, to accentuate the notion that his comments were a bit early and unnecessary, BEFORE people knew what the actual 911 call consisted of.
May I just add it is possible the dispatcher reported it to the officers on the road as a break and enter in progress. Police do not get the 911 calls in their cruisers. I went to a number of calls where what was happening was not what I was dispatched to. At least in Canada, I don't know how it works in the States
