Obama calls Eagles owner to congratulate him for signing Vick NBC's Peter King reports that Barack Obama called Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie earlier this week to congratulate him for giving Vick a second chance after his release from prison. According to King, the president said that released prisoners rarely receive a level playing field and that Vick's story could begin to change that. Vick got that "second chance" from Lurie 16months ago. There was no phone call from the president then. Praising Vick at that time would have been a political third rail. But now that Vick is playing great and most people seem to have either forgiven him or stopped caring about his transgressions, could it be a shrewd political move? After what could be termed a rough two years in office, the president is looking for a second chance from the people who have turned against him over the past two years. Do you think supporting a huge star like Vick could help with the president's recent image problems? It may not register much nationally, but it couldn't hurt in Pennsylvania. After all, it's a swing state and 2012 is just around the corner. What are your thoughts? do you think it is a shrewd political move?
It was a bad move and not political. I think Mr. Vick should never have been given a chance at this. If I committed the same crimes as him, I would not have gotten those chances. I think Vick should have been given the same chances as he gave to those dogs. The president needs to stop kissing some of these sport fan asses. I don't want to know your ncaa basketball picks. I don't care about the nfl, MLB, NHL and whatever other waste of time leagues there are. I am coming out of my university soon in 2 years. He needs to have done better and talked more about the improvements and less on these celebrity folks. While I am at it, I think it is a waste of time to have teams that won in their league to come to the white house. I think it is a waste of time to make notice of people who have won awards in sports while congress is in session or the tax payer is paying for it. :smt018 and that is my rant about sports and political figures. Yes, I watch sports but I think they should remain in their section.
Obama has his eye on Pennsylvania in 2012, so a smart move on his part. I hope Vick wins the whole enchilada and not because I'm an Eagles fan. I'm an NBA guy and could usually care less about the NFL. I just want to see Ron Mexico's black ass up there on the podium, while all of the suburban picket fence haters grit their fucking teeth.
I have to say I agree, but I also say that if you had done what Vick did not much would have been made about it. At least not as much as was made about Vick. Vick fucked up and what can be shown (so far) is that that kid fucked up, paid his price, and has shown that he can learn. I really don't watch sports unless its boxing.......so to me, I don't give a shit either way.
I could care less about sports, but as far as I'm concerned, someone like Vick should have NEVER been in trouble because of a sport he did for extra money. Better for dogs to fight than modern day gladiator stuff.
