Los Angeles, CA (BlackNews.com) - Last September, Wesley Snipes, a Goodwill Ambassador and honorary citizen of Nigeria, visited the country and pledged his support to help take the exploding Nigerian Film Industry, "Nollywood", to higher heights. This year, Nollywood is coming to Hollywood to take steps to do just that.

With over a 1,000 movies churned out yearly and revenues estimated at $200-250 million per year, the almost completely digitally based Nollywood is the third largest film industry behind India's Bollywood and America's Hollywood.

The inaugural event "The Nollywood Foundation Convention 2006, African Cinema and Beyond" is set for June 15th through June 17th, 2006 and will be held at the Omni Hotel located at 251 S Olive St. in downtown Los Angeles.

Organized by the Nollywood Foundation, Inc. [www.nollywoodfoundation.org], a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Los Angeles, CA., the event introduces Nigerian films and culture to American and international audiences; and provides a platform for Nigerian, U.S. and other international filmmakers to exchange ideas and collaborate on business opportunities within Nollywood.

"We hope the forum will be an impetus to advancing the technical and creative standards of the Nigerian film industry and encourage further international collaboration," said Egbe Osifo-Dawodu, President of Nollywood Foundation Inc. "Our goal is to help move the industry to the next level in terms of reach, quality and impact."

The event features screenings of Nigerian movies, including excerpts from the recently released block buster movies My American Nurse, and [30] Thirty days. It also features a panel of highly qualified and intellectually creative speakers such as Afolabi Adesanya, MD of the Nigerian Film Commission; James Makawa, Founder and CEO of The Africa Channel; John Maatta, COO and General Counsel of Warner Bros; Parminder Vir OBE, Ingenious World Cinema [Bollywood]; Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth, former contestant on Donald Trump's Reality TV hit show The Apprentice; Lemmy Adebule, CEO TransAfricaMedia; and Osaze Osifo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ocean & Oil Holdings. Other confirmed celebrities/panelists include Joke Silva and Richard Mofe Damijo, two of Nollywood's mega stars.

Panels will speak on several planned topics such as: The Role of the Evolving Nigerian Film Industry in Economic Development, New Technologies and Innovation in Nollywood/African Cinema, Intellectual Property and Piracy, Film Financing, Television, Improving the Technical Quality of Films, Marketing and Distributing Films in Local and Global Contexts and the Role of Women in Nollywood and African Films.

Nollywood Foundation Inc. sponsors include *King and Spalding LLP, Washington, DC; *Mr. Osifo of Ocean and Oil Holdings, Lagos, Nigeria; *Lufodo Productions, Lagos Nigeria; *Moses Alade and Associates, Clarksville, Maryland; *Hollywood Black Film Festival; *Michael Antonio; *PMRehab Pain and Sports Medicine, Bowie, Maryland; *Temple Productions, Lagos Nigeria; *Communicating Change, Lagos Nigeria; *TransAfrica Media Holdings, Johannesburg, South Africa; *Canyon City Dental, Azusa; and *Paramount Webmasters, Toronto; *University of California's Interdisciplinary Humanities Center; and *African Studies Research Focus Group.

He does, but since he likes to keep up with politics and the news, it would be something that he'd be good at.

No,I wouldn't want to be a journalist. I rather just post them and let others write them. I just keep up with news for industry and investment purposes.
