Born in New Orleans, in the "greater" state of Louisiana, I'm pretty familiar with some of the "good ol' boys" mentality. Well, across the canal there's a place called Chalmette and their reputation is by far, the most repugnant and utterly sickening of all. If you're looking for people who are overtly racist, then look no further than to this little area. Well, controversy sparked when the Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center proposed a mixed-income building in St. Benard Parish -- which is located in Chalmette. Well, the Chalmations heard the news and this image popped up... To add insult to injury, an anonymous caller decided to LEAVE A VOICE MESSAGE which is quite honest about he feels about the whole thing. It's only a minute long, so no need to bore yourselves to death. It's true that racism still exists in this day and age, but how far have we truly come with people like that creating a greater racial divide? Thoughts on the matter? Comments? Sound off people!
That is just plain ole American 'race' hatred. It is so embedded only God can fix it, in my view. But since God doesn't force things people have to be willing to change. Many people in our nation don't want to change so this sin will remain. Politically these sentiments are reinforced through conservative objections—which can come from low-income as well as affluent neighbors—include fears of poorly designed housing, higher populations, increased crime, and lowered property values (in higher-income areas) or a disproportionately high share of affordable housing (among lower-income residents). In other words the n____rs will ruin your neighborhood. Mixed-income housing development in Louisville, KY takes place primarily in the form of tearing down projects and replacing it with new mixed-income housing. It actually draws Whites into the area (Blacks don't complain for some reason about them moving in), who are attracted to being closer to work centers and new affordable housing developments. Blacks that have stable income often stay in the area or move in for the same reasons as Whites do. None of the projects have been perfect of course but, certainly better than the projects that existed there before.
NIMBYISM AT ITS BEST! The "good ol' boys" mentality, I think, is another shade of the consuming opinion that "I have worked hard and I deserve my exclusivity, and stability in my neigbhourhood." It is NIMBYSM at its best. Urban blacks scampering to suburbia work with the same template of lifestyle choices. So who do we really blame? Is it just about human values, or the economic system people subscribe to?
