Can't believe there are black folks out there who think it's okay for outsiders to use that racial ephitet as long as they bastardize the pronunciation.

That's an iq test folks. Even people using that word know that.

That's because once upon a time latinos and blacks were bros. For two or three generations even. Mexicans too.

You'd even see latina chicks buying their daughters black baby dolls.

Then came the '90s. Latins and blacks became "rivals". :smt021 Asians sucked their way into "probationary whiteness". :tonqe: Indians kicked blacks out of their tribes. :smt019 Black women and black men broke up. :smt071 :smt072 Light-skinned black people became triracial caublinasians.

Well at least blacks and whites (and whites and everyone else) got closer.. :freehug:

Crabs in a barrel. I hate seeing all those groups fight amongst one another for "white approval", at the end of the day you're still 2nd at best.

    pretty much

growing up around asians/latinos in a mainly white area, we kinda stuck together and didn't get racial on each other

i never had a latino or asian guy disrespect my race to me or to people i know...never

all this minority beef is very foreign to me

I think it's slightly more complicated than that. It's no coincidence that all those things happened at the same time.

Here's what I think happened, a little sloppily and in no particular order: :smt030

    1. ollie north's crack epidemic gave the right wing all the media images it needed to peddle a political philosophy of "darwinism" to the masses. Black people were clearly "genetically inferior", no more subtle explanation needed than what you were seeing in the crime, etc. Everyone who could distance themselves from those images did so, desperately.

    2. The gangsta movement (thanks hip hop!) - Gangsterism pretty much always devolves into reactionary stuff politically. Hence the cleave between blacks and mexs...

    3. The "attitude" movement - Attitude, entitlement, "it's-all-about-me-ism", especially among black women and latin women, turns tolerance, including racial tolerance, into something just laughable. When "it's all about me" tolerance is for suckers. So that's more fuel for the cleave between blacks and hispanics..

    4. the culture as a whole took a turn to the right, and a big part of right wing philosophy is darwinism. The right exploited all this shit as part of their backlash to the civil rights gains during made in previous decades. I still remember on 9/11, driving home from work, the newsman on the radio saying matter-of-factly, proudly that at one of the local airports "all nonwhite males were taken off the plane and searched". The right was roaring in those days. They were well within reach of the society of racial privilege and paternalism they really want. Solidarity among minorities is a "left" thing. With victory of the right inevitable, solidarity among minorities got "left" behind...

    5. The rise of the asians. Asians provided an example that abject white worship, abject conformity to white standards of being was a path to success in this country. Why would latins continue to want to be lumped in with blacks when they could be like the asians? The racist right courted the asians, got lots of free pussy and basically a racist, political covenant that most asians still haven't left behind.. The right's darwinism makes a philipino an "asian" - a "high iq" somebody, instead of just another third-world turd. The rise of asians was another example of the validity of "darwinism", (the centuries of their history both in the u.S. and in asia notwithstanding, of course... ) And that's all the more reason to look down on - and distance one's self from --us niggras.

    6. The demographic rise of the "latins". Though a mex and a puerto rican are about as alike as a haitian and a frenchman, when it comes to numbers they're all lumped in to the same group, and as those numbers overtake that of blacks, awareness of those numbers affects attitudes toward black/latin brohood vs. rivalry...

    7. Crazy millenialism movements among blacks (eg. black israelite movement). When whitey is the devil, white (or whitish) hispanics become alarmed that so many latins are walking and talking like blacks, maybe even politically aligned with blacks, and this threatens the privileged position of white skin among hispanics. Something has to be done about this.

    8. The right wing's media exploitation of all this. It's worth saying it thrice, media plays a huge part in affecting how people think about race. Media during the 90s was a whole different ballgame than media these days. They saw a paternalistic world of racial hegemony within reach. The right was high on it.. The left was propagating shit like "the 60s are over, and we lost" Anyone remember that? Everyone wanted to be on board, and that means distance from the darkies

    9. New trends in racial integration. How can blacks and mexs call ourselves bros when we all know that we're both more likely to intermarry with whites than we are with each other? Why would one drop of black blood make you black when your black father is long gone and you're more likely to date a white women than an angry overweight attitudinal black woman? Obama is one of the last generation of the "one droppers". Future mixed people will be more like Halle Berry - they ain't going home to no negro. Aint even hanging out with them, now that whites accept you too.

(( Then those planes hit those buildings and everyone realized we had to find a different way. Blacks finally became pretty much full-fledged americans. The right still roared all the way to the mistake that was the second gulf war. The right was was so high on power that they fucked up and got into that one. America recoiled and elected Obama, not just a token black, but a token Hussein. ))

And we are where we are now, in the "post race world" with the right and the left sizing each other up amongst all the new technology and whatever it's going to mean to our society. Watch for more racial shenanigans, as the right exploits the pinheadedness among all the minorities, but especially the latins. The latins will be pitted against blacks the way aspirational asians were pitted against blacks a decade ago.

On the other hand, maybe the race thing will ebb a bit now that the whole world is here - (can you say "Dzhokhar Tsarnaev?)" - and it's way more complicated than black, white, yellow and brown anymore. (Silly assed colors. Remember when indians were "red"?)

...Plus the internet shows everyone that we're all fuckin fools, no matter what the color.

I mean what does racial superiority mean when you see images of black women shitting into white men's mouths, asians fucking octopusses, jews shouting "white power", and a rainbow of jihadis all blowing themselves up in solidarity like "we are the world"?

The internet let's us know that we're all individuals, capable of genius but mostly fools, whatever the color. So who knows where this shit is going. All I know is that I've just written a long-ass essay that even I am not going to read, so I'll stop now. I'm surprised you've stayed with me to this point :!:

^Good post, it's obvious you did your research.

With all that said and the "white-washing" of american minorities, I really get kind of pissed when asian and latino people try to crawl to us when whites don't accept them. And once whites do start accepting them, they jump off us like a rebound, I just ignore that crap.
