heeyyy!!!! no cheap shots on Devin Hester!! the man is not even human. your pathetic Saints defenders couldn't knock his helmet off if they tried lol. whose going to do the hitting on that defense anyway? the 5'9" 160 lb Jason David??

oh, the webmaster stickied this thread, which means it will always stay at the top of the entire sports section. it won't move. so i figure, as long as he stickied it, we might as well finish out the season with it.

    Okay, here are my picks:

    Jacksonville at Pittsburgh
I have to admit that the Jags look particularly dangerous right now, but their problem is the fact that they've never been the favorite, especially in the playoffs. this is new territory for them, and i just don't see them living up to all the hype and expectations. Pittsburgh is a veteran team, with a super bowl level quarterback. i like the Steelers to upset the visiting Jags.

    Washinton at Seattle
Okay, the Redskins have played practically mistake free football lately, but i just don't see it continuing when they visit Seattle. that is "such" a hard place to play, and Todd Collins is a career backup. if he make a couple mistakes, this game could turn into a rout. i'm picking the Seahawks to win here.

    NY Giants vs. Tampa Bay
hmmm....this game is extremely tricky. the Giants are a "much" better team on the road than they are at home, but Tampa Bay plays solid, mistake free football, and always gives themselves a chance to win. they're defense is underrated, and very good. i'm torn on this game. i think the Giants can win, but i've also seen the Giants self-destruct at the worst possible times throughout the season. logic tells me it's Tampa, but my gut is telling me it's New York. i'm picking the Giants in the upset. i don't know how they do it, but i think they do somehow.

    Tennessee at San Diego
Okay, i seriously don't even think the Titans have a shot at winning this game. Vince Young is banged up, and even when he's not, he's pretty ineffective anyway. Kerry Collins, on the road in a hostile environment, in the playoffs, sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Chargers should win here.

Congratulations to you LC, damn my run to take it fazed out but at least I stayed in the top 5. Playoffs time this week should be rther easy

PIT over JAC - Three things that the steelers will not let you do.
    1. Keep embarrasing them
    2. back to back wins against them at home
    3. Run on them forever.

WSH over SEA - I think the seahawks 1-1 records in the playoffs are going to be 0-1 this year, especially since deon branch is out, oh they are in trouble.

TEN over SD - This will be the game that will show if V.Y. Is the true big game man. I thnk he is, that is why I go with them for a win.

NYG over TB - This one is eay, the bucs rested their starters way too long three weeks to be exact. Eli Manning and the G-Men are on a roll.

Also Side note: TOm Brady was just named MVP.

C'mon Kenny_G, you really didn't need to announce that Tom Brady was named MVP; there never was any other serious candidate for MVP. The only other names that i can think of are Brett Favre and Mr Brady's teammate and go-to-guy Randy Moss. The man has worked hard for his award and had be not won, it'd be the greatest robbery in the history of robberies.

Now if he can add the Super Bowl MVP, he can solidify his place among the G.O.A.T.

Oh, by the way guys, let's take a stab in the dark and somehow, the top picker is tied with someone else after the Super Bowl, how do we determine the winner?

good question. i'm not sure. what do you guys think we should do? should we have co-winners?

    GRRRRRRRREAT!!!

I was talking about starting 4 and 0, and I'm already 0 and 2...thank you Todd Collins, thank you Big Ben and your 3 interceptions...Pfffff...:)

Well, guys...if we have two guys tied during the postseason, let's say that the winner will be the one who had a better reg. season record? I don't see any other tie-breaker...

And Kenny, and Bry, let me ruin your day already...Cris is 2 and 0 so far..Bry is 1 and 1, while Kenny and me are 0 and 2...
Cris must be taking some steroids or HGH!!! We've got to test him!!!! :D

  7. Bryant

hmmm...looks like me and Cris both went 3-1, while Jrem and Kenny both went 1-3! Jrem, please confirm this. :)

Damn, Bry. And i was gonna change my TB pick after much thought. Oh well!!! I still wanna win my second trophy so work hard, my man.

(Of course, this is a friendly rivalry - we're all good here).

What are those stupid Bucs doing???

    Anyway, here it is:

    Cris: 3-1
    Bryant: 3-1
    JREM: 1-3
    Kenny: 1-3

    So next week-end it's another 4 games...man, Kenny, we've got to step up!!! :)

C'mon guys, where are your picks ........

I hope you all haven't forgotten the playoffs aren't over. Games are on tomorrow so in order you don't forfeit, post your picks early before you forget.

Seattle Seahawks vs Green Bay Packers - This should be a superb divisional game with two West Coast oriented QBs in Matt Hasselbeck and Brett Favre. However, don't be fooled by Elisabeth's brother-in-law. Last week against Washington, after grabbing an early 13-0, they gave up two TDs in the 4th quarter and needed a strong comeback to win the game - this against a 9-7 team who were playing without their #1 quarterback and lost their star defender to a brutal murder -. The Seahawks were fortunate to face an injury-riddled team with a 36-year-old scarecrow at quarterback, a sack of flour at right tackle, and a backup defensive end playing tight end.

To win on Sunday, Seattle need to step up - forget the cliches. Hasselbeck cannot afford to keep overthrowing to open receivers and Alexander has got to run the ball better and avoid too many third-and-long situations.

I'm sorry but i'm taking the Packers here. They're the healthier, more balanced and better team. The Seahawks' easy season ends here.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs New England Patriots - The Jags are impressive. I still am shocked that not a single Jaguar is going to Hawaii. The Jaguars are hard-hitting and fundamentally sound. They could beat the Packers, throw a scare into the Cowboys, and brawl the Colts to a 12-round decision.

I still am not sold on the Pats' ability at stopping the run but here's another thing: Jacksonville's front four are not as good as i initially thought they were. They didn't put so much pressure on Ben Roethlisberger particularly in the second half. Offensively, the Steelers showed that Garrard will make some bad decisions in the pocket, and they proved once again that there is nothing scary about the Jaguars receiving corps.

Against any other team named New England Patriots, these flaws are minor but when you play a team with the best receiver, quarterback and offensive line in the league, they will be fatal. The Jaguars scored a touchdown after a long kickoff return, but the Patriots don't allow many returning touchdowns, or do they?

Perhaps the weather will serve as some divine intervention for the Jags but overall, it won't be good enough for one simple reason intelligible to most NFL fans - The Pats are the best team in the league.

San Diego Chargers vs Indianapolis Colts - Remember that game in Week 9 when the Colts lost at San Diego 23-21? I bet you do. Coming into the game, the Chargers were the overwhelming under-dogs after being blown out by the surging Vikings 35-17. The Colts were coming off a battle-to-the-gun loss to their archrivals. They looked like the second-best team in the NFL. We all assumed that the Chargers will get dumped on like America did the Taliban in '01.

    Wrong!!!

Mr Super Bowl Em-Vee-Pee threw six interceptions - all to sophomore CB Antonio Cromartie. Somehow, the Colts allowed two kick return touchdowns and spotted the Chargers a 23-0 lead. Although the Colts did rally back thanks to two Manning touchdown passes and Philip River' mishandle granting Gary Brackett the fumble return, Indy's miseries compounded as they failed to nail the two pointer and on a last gasp drive, Manning threw his final - and most costly - pick.

Oh and did i mention that Adam Vinatieri missed two field goals?

The Pats have been the talk of town all season - deservedly - but teams who are written off take it as a locker room motivating factor. They are 13-3, defending champions and have a great chance of beating the Chargers at home yet they seem to have been forgotten.

But don't crown the Pats yet. The Colts are still as mean, hungry, angry and dangerous as ever. They are healthier now than they were 10 weeks ago when they played the Chargers. They were without tight end Dallas Clark, Tony Ugoh and receivers Tony Gonzalez and Marvin Harrison.

But enough of the Colts, let's focus on the Chargers. They have improved dramatically from their 5-5 start. Defensively, they are as capable as they were in their 14-2 season. Offensively, they are less L.T dependent and are more unpredictable. But i wonder if Antonio Gates' absence will hurt them. Norv Turner won his second playoff career but the Chargers better restuff that offensive bag of tricks.

Ultimately, it remains clear that the Colts were and are the better team heading into this fixture. Defensively, they're as capable as anybody else and with Manning's receivers available, his "more than 1 interception" quota is full for the next week or so. I look forward for a repeat of last year's AFC Championship game.

New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys - Somehow, i know that all four home teams (and favored teams) cannot all win when i pick them. I'm convinced here's where the puzzle takes a sharp turn west.

The Cowboys have already beat the Giants twice this season. They match up very well against them. Tony Romo and the Cowboys' line can avoid the Giants' pass rush. T.O and the remaining Cowboys receivers cannot be single-covered by the Giants' DBs so that limits the amount of blitzes the Giants' defensive co-ordinators can call. . The Cowboys ripped off 76 points and 801 offensive yards in the first two games, and they'll pile up at least 31 more on Sunday. Eli Manning is playing the best football of his career, but he's not ready to win a shootout against an offense this good, with Jeremy Shockey hurt, on the road.

This one seems like a no-brainer, but Dallas' lack of execution and passion in those near-meaningless few games at the end of the regular season were a cause for legitimate concern. Wade Philips' laid-back style may have spread to the field in those last near-meaningless games. If he doesn't get the hot poker out for Sunday, the Cowboys might get smoked at home.

Take the Cowboys and get your popcorn ready for that old rivalry NFC Championship game in Irving, Texas.

BALLLLINNN!! Now the good shit starts this weekend so lets do it

GB over SEA - Seattle did pretty good their first playoff game, but it is like I said they mostly are 1-1 playoff team, just got lucky their superbowl year 2 years ago.

NE over JAC - Good game, I have been wrong about jacksonville through some of their game during the regular-season, but powerhouse new england are undefeated in the playoffs at home, 16-0, got randy moss just too much jags are going to have to keep score and if the steelers defense can limit them to 10 pts. in the second half then can't help but to think belichick was watching and studying on how to do that.

SD over IND - Chargers are on a role that I just don't see them losing until they meet new england in the AFC Championship.

DAL over NYG IF T.O. PLAYS!
NYG over DAL IF T.O. DOESN'T PLAY!
It is that simple because dallas only has NYG 's number when t.o. plays.

Okay, i'm taking the entire weekend off from work, so i can see these games, so they better be good darnit!! :) Here we go, let's see if i can go mistake-free this week with my picks. 8)

    Jacksonville at New England
Okay, Jacksonville beating the Steelers twice in the same season, IN PITTSBURGH, is quite impressive. However, i just don't see them pulling it off this week against the Pats up in Foxboro. Belicheck is great after having 2 weeks of planning, and Brady never loses at home...EVER. Pats should win this game if they use the pass as their running game. If they try and run the ball in this game at all, their offensive coordinator should be fired immediately.

    San Diego at Indianapolis

I wasn't able to see the first game between these two this season, but from what i heard, Peyton Manning threw six INT's, yet they still were in position to win in the end, if not for a Vinatieri miss. Philip Rivers is inconsistent, and Gates is banged up. That all sounds bad for the Chargers. Colts should win big here. They'll be ready to play the Patriots next week.

    NY Giants at Dallas
Okay, this game is tough to pick. But honestly, the only reason i don't see the Cowgirls losing this week, is because they're going to lose next week to the Packers. Sorry Giants fans, i think the Cowgirls are destined to play, and get eliminated by the magical gray beard Favre, not by Eli Manning and Brandon Jacobs lol.

By the way, maaaan am i glad that Jessica Simpson isn't gonna be in the stands. That would be way too much to bear.

    Seattle at GreenBay
Packers will advance here. It won't be easy, as the Seahawks like to make things difficult with that crazy defense of theirs, but the Packers should get it done, and get themselves ready to eliminate the girls in the championship game next week.

Wow...Bryant and Cris are going for the "home sweep"!!! well, when is the last time that happened? not last year for sure, since New England went into San Diego and upset the Chargers on their home field...

I go for something similar this year, in Green Bay...and in Dallas (what???)

    So here we go

SEATTLE at GREEN BAY: The Packers have been resting a little too long, Charles Woodson may be a little rusty to cover Deion Branch...and Brett will show some of his marvelous self but also some of his "what the heck were you thinkin" throws!!

JACKSONVILLE at NEW ENGLAND: Until someone beats the Pats, they are the best team in the 07-08, above every opponent...The Jags are no pushover, but New England just has that "IT" factor..what am I saying, they have plenty of them!!!

NY GIANTS at DALLAS: Tony ROMO will show the whole world that being with Jessica Simpson isn't such a bad thing...if you're on a beach in Mexico, but not at Dallas Stadium...the Giants will create the Biggest surprise of these playoffs by narrowly getting past the BOYS

SAN DIEGO at INDIANAPOLIS: Sorry LT, but Peyton Manning is still pissed at the fact that he gave ur Chargers a game, when he played more like Ryan Leaf than himself...He'll go insane on the Chargers and Jo Addai will help!!!

Alright, now let's hope a little bit of the luck factor helps me too!! :)

Man, I went 2 and 2 despite my bold, bold, bold predictions, unlike some ppl I know here :)...who just picked the home teams to win! hehehe!

I can already tell you though, it's going to be New England and Green Bay in the Superbowl...but those picks are for another day...

So far I'm 3 and 5 in the postseason...not very good...I'm going to bed now (it's 2.04 am here)

    Peace!!!

I went 2-2 with my picks too, but dang Jrem, you ought to get some cool points for going ahead and picking the Giants to upset. I didn't think they could pull it off. I mean, what team has been able to hold Dallas to 17 points in a game all season? That's incredible. And the Colts??? ohh jeeez. what a horrible, horrible loss for them. getting beat by the Chargers when Gates, Tomlinson, AND Rivers is out of the game is just flat out embarrassing. i hope they don't run into San Diego ever again, because that team owns the Colts. seriously.

well, it looks like it's going to be the Packers and Patriots, just like i predicted. there's no way the Giants are going into lambeau field and winning that game. i'm sorry, i just don't see it happening. Eli is playing like the first overall pick finally, but the Packers are just so darned good right now. i think they match up perfectly with New England. i do think the Chargers have a fighters chance to pull the upset, but if Peyton Manning can throw for 400 yards against them without Marvin Harrison, Tom Brady should have a field day.

c'mon Packers vs. Patriots Super Bowl!!! now that's one game, where i actually wouldn't mind the hype. it should be a great one. as long as the Giants and Chargers don't try and screw things up lol.

Hey it's saturday folks...conference championship games are around the corner...so "getcha popcorn ready"...oops, TO isn't in the playoffs anymore...

    Well, anyway...:)

Everybody went 2 and 2 last week...so the standings are:

    Cris: 5-3 (3-1)
    Bry: 5-3 (3-1)
    JREM: 3-5 (1-3)
    Kenny-g: 3-5 (1-3)

    Here are my picks:

San Diego at New England: Ned I say why??? And Randy Moss distractions will just make him go off on he Chargers to proove how focus he is!!

NY Giants at Green Bay: I've been on the Giants bandwagon since their game against the Pats...and I have to take chances...no reason to jump off yet...so, I call for the UPSET!!!

  18. kenny_g

    kenny_g New Member

Well JREM got NYG vs. NE in the superbowl, so let's ee who I will have.

    AFC CHAMPIONSHIP
SD at NE - San Diego has been a surprising team this year after there pityful start and they do have the payback, revenge factor that is on them but they also blew the revenge factor against them when they got beat last year in the playoffs and got beat again this season so it will be interesting to see if they lose three in a row against the patriots or the revenge factor finally kick in, but what I think would happen is...san diego is a better team since the last time they met, but new england is a better team since the last playoff game they beat them in and they are undefeated at home in the playoffs so the our AFC Champs of '07 are
    The New England Patriots!!

    NFC CHAMPIONSHIP
NYG at GB - Giants showed they are a goo bounce back team when they beat the cowboys after getting swept by them in the regular season, but green bay's roll is a very good one, they like the patriots they have continued to be very even with the bye week. But The Packers' weakness is a very aggressive front four as it showed in their losses in the chicago games and the G-Men have an very impressive front four. So with all that said this might be the toughest one, but the winners are......
    The Green Bay Packers!!

And with that said my projected superbowl picks are
GB vs. NE - who by the way was the team brett favre beat to win his first superbowl championship.

    BTW
Did anybody notice both championship games are rematches?

Jeez, these playoff games have been anything but predictable. Full of ups and downs, highs and lows - of course that's all great for us fans and sports writers.

And to think, four months ago, the Chargers and Giants were 1-1 and 0-2 in Week 2 respectively. Now i must admit i'm not exactly the biggest Chargers fan - well, i do love LT - and wrote them off but i'm a human being and i get it wrong at times. Well weeks later, the Chargers have suffered their conference crisis, Peyton Manning and that devastating fire in SoCal to reach the AFC Championship Game. The Giants rejuvenated their running-and-defense schemes and their dangerous pass rush.

Whats more, the Chargers and Giants come into these games with erratic, somewhat confused and perhaps enigmatic fourth year quarterbacks. Yet, they've beaten the odds - "the odds" being Dallas and Indianapolis. Seemingly unstoppable and odd-defying, they hope to stake their names amongst the best the world of football has to offer. But as we know, it takes more than a brilliant pass rush, new and improved running backs and slightly improved quarterbacks to beat the odds.

    Now let's do this.

San Diego vs New England Patriots - Sunday's upset win in the hoosier state reminded us that regardless of the amount of stars a starting lineup contains, the benchers are hired for a reason. Indianapolis went to the bench to get Aromashodu (i bet you not many can pronounce that name correctly, of course i can as its a Nigerian name) whilst the Chargers found Nanee and Darren Sprolesm, Mark Scifres and unsung hero Marlon McCree. With Philip Rivers and Mr 2006 MVP out injured, these seemingly unrecognizable heroes dethrones the reigning champions.

All of a sudden, the Chargers seem to be clicking at the right time and everything is going well for them. Norv Turner has finally been vindicated and even without LT putting up big numbers, they are sweeping by nonetheless. Their winning streak in undeniably impressive, but i know a better one - the Patriots have not lost an NFL game since January 21 2007.

In short, i have run out of adequate superlatives and adjectives in describing the Pats. They are breathlessly dominant and make running up the score look brilliant. In doing my best impression of John Madden (that means overstating the obvious), Tom Brady is simply the most dominant player on the most dominant team. I am not taking anything away from Randy Moss because the boy's got game but as we saw last week, taking away Randy Moss from the equation makes no difference as Brady will dump on you anyway.

Sure, the Chargers have improved since Week 2's 38-14 loss but their best players are hobbling. Tomlinson is bruised (although he should be fine by gametime), Philip Rivers has a bad knee whilst Antonio Gates' toe still remains problematic. Their front seven are good but so were the Steelers and Giants' front seven and they barely put a dent in the Pats. Tomlinson and Michael Turner are great runners, but the Patriots withstood the best 1-2 running punch in the league last week, holding Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew to 66 yards.

The Chargers need a lot of luck and some more - perhaps even some fluke and some mistakes - but i doubt any of them would be putting on any horseshoes for the game. Patriots' fans should be watching this game right next to their PCs ready to book their tickets to Arizona.

New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys - Somehow, i knew that Green Bay would play in the NFC Championship game but not Dallas. It just had to happen again.

I would talk about the Cowboys but they're history - let's focus on the present and future although i can't get away without mentioning how pathetic Terrell Owens looked trying to "defend" his quarterback. Boy, that dude sure does look like a bummed out Isaac Hayes.

Anyway, 11 years ago, Brett Favre was a forerunning Peyton Manning - young quarterback with enviable stats yet possessing a reputation for being a playoff choke artist. The two previous years, his Packers lost to the Cowboys in the postseason. To date, Dallas remains Brett Favre's achilles heel. (The Packers lost this year to Dallas, by the way).

Back in 1996, a miracle happened. An upstart Panthers, a second year expansion team, upset the Cowboys in the divisional round. The Panthers were good enough for the Cowboys, but were no match for the Packers. The Packers won, 30-13, then beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Favre instantly went from being Karl Malone (choking in the clutch) to becoming Michael Jordan (winning the big one).

But of course, the past is meaningless now. The '90s Cowboys are wayy better than today's edition but still remained the greatest threat to Brett Favre and company all season long. The Giants have been solidifying their campaign for the Oscar in the category of "Best spoiler". The Patriots loom on the horizon, just as they did in 1996.

If the Giants win tomorrow, they'd probably be the worst NFC Championship team in history but they'd be happy about it. They have improved drastically since that loss 18 weeks ago where Favre threw three touchdowns and endured just one sack. Eli Manning played that game with a shoulder injury and and the Giants had not yet finalized their rotations on the defensive line or at running back. But the Packers have improved too. Grant is better than Brandon Jackson, who started that game at running back. Their offensive line has overcome injuries and solidified. The Giants may have gotten two touchdowns better, but the Packers improved by a field goal or two as well. And that Week 2 game was played on a warm day in the Meadowlands. As we know, the weather is often a deliberating factor with these two teams.

Get set for another P2 (Packers-Patriots) Super Bowl. That's not a stab at the Chargers and Giants but more of a testament to the will and greatness of Favre and Brady.

N.B. It's possible that myself and Bryant end up with the same score as we picked the same thing but Bry is my road dawg so i'm willing to share the honors with him if either of us wins it.

What's up my brothas? It looks like this is the last weekend of games before the Bowl. Dang, has this season been fun or what? I know i've enjoyed it soo much. Well, i'm gonna keep this simple. I'm hoping for a New England vs. Green Bay Super Bowl. I just hope the Chargers and Giants don't play over their heads this weekend, and attempt to pull off any upsets.
