Okay, the season opener kicks off next week, and i wanted to get an early start so we can figure out who will be participating in our "pickem league" this year. Last year it was myself, Cris, J-Rem (where is J-Rem anyway?) Kenny, and Wedlock (came on at the end of the season). Cris went on a ridiculous winning streak towards the end, and came away looking like a genious with his accurate prediction of when the Dolphins would get their first win. He was eventually crowned wwbm.com champion of the 2007-2008 pickem league, but of course, all good things must come to an end. I'm definitely looking to put an end to his reign on the top. So.....let's get a head count here. Who will be participating this season?
By the way, my Bears may very well suck this season but the way our division is shaping up, it's anyone's game. The Viqueens still have T-Jack at qb (and people say Grossman is inconsistent) the Cheeseheads also have an unproven quarterback, and the Kittens....well, you know they always end up finishing dead last in the division every year. And Jrem, your Saints are looking pretty good with the addition of Vilma and Shockey, but it's a shame they still can't get over the hump by defeating my Bears when the playoffs are on the line.
I'm in, and I'm going with my Jaguars to run the table. We stacked from top to bottom and we got madd personnel on our coaching staff. *Disclaimer* I had this image made for me about 3 years ago by a guy on another messageboard. This was before I was really into WW on a full-time basis so don't throw any darts this way. I still keep it because it just looks so beautiful.
I know we got some football fans in here, so i'm going to drop a line. There is a browser-based game called "goallineblitz," that allows you to create a player (ranging from QBs to lowly Punters ) and play on teams with other human players. It's more of a paper-type game, where you can adjust your players stats, however, you have no direct control over them in-game (like in Madden). Games are simulated every 48 hours and you can watch a textual "play-by-play," or watch individual plays on a mock football field. You can also buy a team (due to high demand, i'm like 990-ish on the waiting list to get one ) and advertise for players on the game's forums. Other people with created players can then play for you and you can negotiate salaries (you can get bitched at by some guy who thinks his character is the next T.O. and demands more pay), depth charts (you can then place that whining turkey really deep within the chart and watch him whine as he doesn't get play time), rosters ( and finally, you can kick his bumb ass off the squad because of his moaning), etc, etc. It's at www.goallineblitz.com and you can get more info about the game there. If I can get a team, you guys could join and we could kick some ass in one of their leagues. It's free to play unless you plan on owning a team. My current player name is Ernie Hudson and I'm a 3rd String RB on the Anchorage Towers. I got 64 yards this season so far, but I don't get much play time as you can imagine. It's a nice change from playing Madden on my ps3.
Oh I been hip to goallineblitz for a minute now. I only got one player who is a level 18 DE that's a beastly pass-rusher in the making. It's totally free and you can sign up here: http://goallineblitz.com/game/signup.pl?ref=13176353
I just got hip to that joint a couple weeks back, while playing a world war 2 MMO called Battleground Europe. Like I said earlier, I'm trying to get a team but the waiting list is bananas kid. If I snatch one, I'll let ya'll know. I'll also be advertising on the forums for players.
My player is in the last season of his contract. He aint gonna be cheap either. You know that pass-rushers are a premium position these days, especially after that wonderful superbowl performance by the Giants D-Line.
lol.. you know my eagles reputation for being cheap mofos... and I lived in this city all my life... so you know you won't be making anything. on the real tho, I'm really curious to see what it's like owning a team in the game, which is why I hope that waiting list shrinks soon.
Okay, so we definitely have Tony and Malik joining us this year. I'm not sure about Jrem, but i know Kenny and Cris will be here as well. Petty Officer, did you say you were in?
I see there are a lot of Cowboy fans on the board. I guess you guys are all gonna be disappointed when Tony Romo self-implodes in the playoffs for the 3rd year in a row.8) You guys have to be ready for a little friendly trash talk. That's just what goes on in here from time to time. By the way, i've heard of the goal line blitz game, but don't want to get into it without being able to dedicate the time. I'll probably check it out in the future.
didn't mean to hijack your thread, but if it walks like a duck, talk like a duck, it is a duck... therefore I figured you would be down for something like that..
haha...i see what you mean. the thought of it is intriguing, but you know, i'd rather just play madden or something lol. i'm a footballaholic, but i'm not into fantasy football either. i don't mind people who are, but i think it cheapens the game quite a bit. it puts too much emphasis on statistics.
Bryant, America's Team doesn't have fans we have following! We also break off beaks and shoot eagles out of the sky fur fun...
Petty we mortal enemies anyway god. I rep NYC your peoples are from Phil-lay. I suggest you fall back before you get got flying with a short wing span... The Dallas Contingent!
