    NFL offseason verbal match.

:D We're just going to have to wait and see about Moss, but I'm telling you, fellas, it IS that D, IN the end.
To me, you could have put Kyle Ortman up in there, and if he could play mistake free football-it would have been a wrap[/img]

Wedlock, think about it...who are the biggest stars in the NFL? and I mean the BIGGEST!! the Quaterbacks, then the RUNNING BACKS!!! then the rest...and they are??? OFFENSIVE players!!

Apart from the Bears in 1985 and the Ravens in 2000, which team has won a Superbowl with an inept offense and a great D?? Not many!! But many teams have won a Superbowl with ok D and stellar offense...a very recent exemple is of course the COLTS last year...

Think of Montana, Brady, Doug Williams, Bradshaw, Unitas, Manning...the list goes on...do you really think their teams would have won their Superbowl without them? I'm not so sure!!!

    Peace!!!

    NFL OFF SEASON VERBAL MATCH

:D The qb's are a big factor, but look at the defense on those squads you just named. Defense wins championships my brother, I'm telling you.

    NFL OFF SEASON VERBAL MATCH

:D You speak truth with your examples, brother. But let me just tell you thatof the top offensive teams of the last 13 years, only two actually went on to win a Super Bowl (1994 Forty-Niners and 1998 Broncos). Of the top defensive teams, four won the Super Bowl (2000 Ravens, 2002 Buccaneers, 2004 Patriots, and 1996 Packers). And two of the top offensive teams (2002 and 2004 Chiefs) didn't even make the playoffs. the Steelers did win in 05 with a slightly worse D over Seattle, but only slightly.
Now, you made a good case for the Colts of 06, but I thought Dungy was a defensive minded coach that helped their D improve.I feel it had to if the Colts were going to make some noise.
No disrespect to the offense, my brother, but you must have that "D." :D

Dear Wedlock, your post is great...I like it when someone knows his stuff and backs his arguments!!!

BUT!!! :D like you said, only two top offenseive teams won the SB in the last 13 years, while 4 top defensive teams won!

Two things to note here: 4 against 2 isn't an overwhelming difference is it??

More importantly, look at those four top defensive teams:
1996 Packers: BRETT FAVRE, DESMOND HOWARD...and more on OFFENSE

2000 Ravens are the only one who really had a pretty lame offense with TRENT DILFER who managed the game very well though

2002 Buccaners: BRAD JOHNSON, KEYSHAWN, McCARDELL among others on OFFENSE!!

2004 PATS: Well, do I need to cite their offensive weapons???

So you see, even these top D teams had more than a decent O to win the SB...
Of course (and that's for my friend Bryant), the teddy BEARS last year with their pro-bowl bound Rex, had a great D, but no O, and therefore, no SB!!!

:D You are correct in citing those offensive weapons, my brother. But I would still request that you hearken back to the days of "The Steel Curtain," and ask Tony how he feels about the "D?"
You DO have to have a QB with some sense, but Brady is NOT an offensive weapon like Favre ONCE was.Brady is and was mainly successful because of the Pat's structure. It's more of a "Billy B" thing than a "Tommy B" thing.
But I digress, the important point I am trying to make is if you check out the teams that win-their defense is never soft. The only exception I can think of is the St.Louis Rams , maybe? From their win in 2000 over the Titans? If I'm a coach, my squad is going to be Tony and Herman like more so than Dennis-like.Just my .02.You're a sharp brother, and like the thread!
    Thanks.

Hey Jrem, i haven't argued with you for some time, so here i am! :D But seriously, what do you think about the Bears moving Devin Hester to the offensive side of the ball?? In my opinion, i think Hester is just as explosive with the football as Bush, and this move was made largely in part of the kinds of matchup problems that Bush creates for other teams. The Bears were kinda like hey, it's working for them, so let's do it too! lol

From the appearance of things, i can swear that the Bears are starting to think offense, and then more offense this season. We draft the tight end Olsen (and when Rex is connecting with the tight end on a consistent basis, we're a much, much better football team) we draft the little guy Wolfe who plays similar to Warrick Dunn, and now we move Hester to the offense. I'm starting to wet my pants thinking about all of the possibilities. I actually think this could work!! :p

Wouldn't it be awesome if we were able to beat the Saints at their own game! haha

By the way, it looks as though your new draft pick Meachem is already injury prone. lol

Aaah, BRY, I see that you stay on top of things!!!

Hester moving to offense, sign of a team that is so desperate to find some ofeensive weapons that they are taking their Kick Returner to play WR...I feel sorry for your Teddy Bears Bry, we are going to kick ur ass in the last game of the season, u just wait!!

Hester is good, but comparing him to Reggie is like comparing Drew Brees to Tom Brady...I mean Brees is good, but he is no Brady right???

Rob Meachem just had a few extra pounds, that's why he tweaked his ankle...he is going to be fine...and even if doesn't start, we have so many weapons at WR (Colston, Henderson, Copper, Reggie, Patten), we don't have to rush him in!

Our cornerbacks did very well though, one of them might actually take Fred-please Burn Me-Thomas as the starting corner opposite Mike McKenzie!!
I feel the fear in you Bryant...

ps: Your boy Tank Johnson is awaiting his suspension...so your D will miss Briggs and Johnson...hmmm...we'll see where you guys rank on D come September!! :)

Jrem, of course i stay on top of things. That's what i do!! :) And of course Hester moving to the offense is a desperate move, but that doesn't make it any less significant. Seeing that kid run a reverse or a wide receiver screen is going to be a thing of beauty. I am kind of concerned about the possibility of injury, and him being too fatigued to be effective on returns, but that might actually be a blessing in disguise. Teams might start to believe that he's too gassed to return kickoffs the distance and start kicking it to him regular instead of the squib kicks that they have been doing lately. Just when they think Hester is too gassed...BOOM!!! He sprints past 8 defenders en route to the goal line for a touchdown!!

I'll give it to you, Bush is fantastic at what he does, and Hester is totally unproven on the offensive side of the ball, but we would be crazy if we didn't at least try and get him a few extra touches per game. But c'mon, it's not like Bush is even the best at what he does anyway. That honor would go to Brian Westbrook of the Philadelphia Eagles. Bush hasn't even proven that he can carry the ball more than 20 times in a game. And here's some staggering stats for you: Bush never had a single rush longer than 20 yards the entire season, and was only able to run for 3.6 yards a carry!! Catching the ball was a different story, but actually running the football...not so much. So you see, your boy Bush isn't as great as he "appears" to be. And what's with the team trading up to draft another running back anyway?? Antonio Pittman??? I'm totally confused with that one.

By the way, if you guys don't need Meachem to start, then why draft him in the first place?? Boy Jrem, there are a lot of head scratchers with you guys. :smt017 And why would we miss Tank Johnson when our full-time starter and pro bowl DT Tommie Harris is coming back from injury?? Our team is so deep, we can replace just about any position on the team except for MLB where the "Great One" Brian Urlacher plays. :p

I had said that you stay on top of things Bry, but now I might just retract my compliment...
Well, ok, I give you half of it!!!

    Let's start with Reggie!!!
Not as GREAT as he appears to be???

The boy (just 22 years old) was a rookie!! still gained 1300 all purpose yards!!!
Shared the load with Deuce Mac, who took most of the straight North-South runs, bcoz Payton is a smart coach, no need to burn the yougster when u have a bruising back like Deuce!!!

Reggie has been working out like crazy this offseason (check "Fre Flo Do") and he is going to be much improved, which should be verrry scary for any team that will play us!!

Now about our draft, let me clear things up for you my padawan!!

Meachem doesn't need to start right away, but we drafted him first bcoz of the potential!!! C'mon Bry, most QB for instance, drafted in the first round, sit out their first season at least, to learn behind a veteran!! We see Meachem's potential, he is going to be a great player, you'll see...but we won't rush him into play!!!

Antonion Pittman: Reggie, eventually is going to be the man...Deuce Mac is turning 29 next year...and has a bigggg contract...are you with me? I think that as great a back as he is, he isn't getting any younger, and the Saints will probably trade him after next season, while he still has some good trade value...and Pittman will be his replacement...same kind of back, bruiser goes north-south, vs the slasher that is Reggie!!!

Finally: Trying Hester on offense may be a good idea, but wait until he sees those cornerbacks coming to take his head off...I hope for you he doesn't get hurt!!!
You say you won't miss Tank Johnson bcoz Tommie Harris is coming back from injury?? re-read yourself...did u say "COMING BACK FROM INJURY"??? how good is he going to be? the truth is nobody knows!!!

I'll stop here, I've schooled you enough for tonight!! :):):)

Bry I love our verbal matches, this is the Barbershop, wwbm style!!! it's a shame there aren't more guys taking part in our football verbal jabs!!!

Well at least Laydeezman and Wedlock have given their two cents a bit!!! can't wait until the season starts already!!! :D

Hey Jrem, how's that Saints mini-camp coming for you guys?? Have you been reading the papers?? Everybody is raving about what Devin Hester has been doing in the Bears first mini-camp. All they're talking about is how explosively fast he is, how he's been catching everything thrown his way, and how natural he looks on the offense. Wow, this Hester experiment is actually going to work. I can feel it. It's gonna be sick!!

And how in the world can you guys afford to draft offensive players with potential when your defense needs players who can step in and play right now??? That makes no sense whatsoever. What are the GM's smokin down there in Nawlins Jrem?? :smt028 :smt025

And as far as finding a replacement for Deuce, why not just address that scenario when it actually occurs?? More head scratchers from you guys. :smt017 Typical.
