Exactly my issue with her statement. If she believes it, that's one thing, but to broadcast your ignorance then be upset by the backlash is idiotic. I have barely 20 minutes to try and catch a glimpse of the news each morning, yet I'm inundated with stories of young African Americans doing amazing things. This lady makes a living off the news yet she acts and speaks as if all black men are raised in the system, familiar with police, living with multiple siblings from multiple fathers while their moms are working multiple jobs?? She's willfully ignorant and to put her closed minded beliefs out there for all to hear...she doesn't belong anywhere near public broadcasting. Ignorantly perpetuating the stereotypes of young bm in this country instead of spotlighting their stories of hope, determination and success. People like her grate on my last nerve.
Her whole post went over you twos head... that was her point with the story of the hard working black kid in the restaurant.
She acknowledged ONE hard working young bm...after negatively stereotyping the other 99.9% of bm in her post. Foh with that nonsense.
When she was distinguishing between the two... Had she simply made mention of the suspects in the mass shooting vs. the hard-working guy in the restaurant... It would've gone over much better. Again, my feeling is that the way she presented this... It gave yet another reason for people to think negatively about young black men in general, but then here's a hard working guy at the restaurant. It's like she's presenting the shooters as the norm (with young black men) and the guy in the restaurant as an anomaly. Exactly!
I’ve been dragging around this feeling like a cold I can’t shake that rattles in my chest each time I breathe and makes my temples throb. I don’t want to hurt anymore. I’m tired of hurting. You needn’t be a criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers who broke so many hearts two weeks ago Wednesday. I will tell you they live within 5 miles of Franklin Avenue and Ardmore Boulevard and have been hiding out since in a home likely much closer to that backyard patio than anyone thinks. They are young black men, likely teens or in their early 20s. They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs. These boys have been in the system before. They’ve grown up there. They know the police. They’ve been arrested. They’ve made the circuit and nothing has scared them enough. Soooooooo 99.9% of black men live within 5 miles of Franklin ave and ardmore? Would you two be screaming racist if a black made this same comment? When their are mass shootings in suburban areas or schools and people automatically assume they are white boys with family issues, are those racists to you as well?
Either I'm getting old and my vision is suffering the effects or the iPhone resolution is horrible because I thought she was black lol. My comments this whole time have been under the impression that this was a bw minimizing the growth and accomplishments of bm in this country. My bad. That probably answers your question tho. ANYONE minimizing the positive actions of bm in this country would get it from me. I'm not screaming racist...I'm screaming IGNORANCE.
You know the issue with this comparison? White men are given the benefit of every doubt when they're accused of a crime. They LIVE to see the next day. News reports immediately start digging for the "why" and "how" this white man did something so terrible. The difference when it's an assumed black suspect?? They're presumed to have "grown up in the system, having been arrested multiple times, living with multiple siblings by multiple fathers with their moms working multiple jobs". If you don't see the stark differences between these two scenarios, I can't help you.
