Whats up Kool and Rose. Glad to see you both joined! I'm relatively new myself and it's been fun so far!
Not sure what to tell...I am a teacher, a 44 year old woman, with 2 kids still at home, and one who is in college. I have dated interracially in the past. I enjoy football and am the biggest Steelers fan in the whole world! I have read this forum for awhile, and decided it was time to stop reading and start writing a bit! I have noticed that there have been more men than women posting, but am not quite sure why.
Really just about any kind of music. Lately, I have been listening to Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Warren Zevon. My tastes change quite often. I do also listen to rap music, and new R&B...the rap because I work with high school students and believe that it is important for me to know what they are listening to, and the R&B because I like it. How about you?
Well... I listen to a lot of music from my country and from my husband's country. They have a singer Salif Keita, he's the most famous Malian singer, his music is great. It's a little like jazz, has traditional elements, some songs are great for dancing... His albums "The Mansa of Mali", "Mouffou" and "M'Bemba" are in heavy rotation in my car. I like American music too, classic rock, classic soul, I like hip-hop and R&B from the nineties, and dancehall reggae of course! I used to close down the 2I's reggae club in NYC But now that I'm a grown boring lady, I'm not as into it. Today's hip hop really turns me off, maybe also because I'm more grown, maybe because it's deteriorating... but a lot of people feel the same way.
Salif Keita sounds interesting. I think I will check him out! I have also been enjoying Al Green lately! Where are you and your husband from?
Salif is from Mali http://www.africanmusic.org/artists/salif.html so is my husband. I'm from Russia. We met at an African nightclub in the village in NYC  Notice that on his website it says that because he was born albino, he was shunned because they consider it a sign of bad luck. But he became an international star. Talk about bad luck!
Moskvichka, Your husband is from Mali? Do you know the music of Amadou et Mariam? They are a blind couple who play some african rock/funk music. They are hot hot hot and their album Dimanche à Bamako has taken Europe by storm! I saw them recently at a local festival! There is a great write up on them here: http://ottawabluesfest.ca/en/index.php?page=scheduled_performer_list&performer_id_req=39 Oh... and of course, welcome Rose and Kool!! Great to have new posters onboard!
