Black characters are starting to show up more and more in Japanese anime/manga/video games.

 

Barret didn't sport a fro.

I'm just talking about sporting afros.

And he seems to be the only mainstream character, currently, whose doing it.

 

Yelp, with Afro-samurai being the main one, and countless of other lesser characters.

And they don't pull any punches either. That character I posted will have the most dialogue than any other in the game. And he doesn't sound like a stereotype like Barret.

Oh, and something relevant to this site, the Black men in anime, specifically in the late '80s seem to have a thing for the non-black women.

Zack from DOA series is like this as well. He is always flirting with the blonde Tina in the game.
